won't these be seriously throttled? I really wish that Thunderbolt four moved to PCIe 4.0x 4 to double the bandwidth and make it so eGPUs weren't bottlenecked [as much].

Actually, the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 x4 isn't the issue, it's really thunderbolt and the way it's implemented. For example, compared to PCIe 3.0 x8 with a 3770K (x16 slot doesn't work), a GTX 980 on the PCIe 3.0 x4 on TB3 actually has lower FPS even with an i7-9750H and 2x8GB 3200 MHz; it has 50% more cores and threads, more IPC, faster RAM, and still loses to my 3770K. In something like NFS Heat, where I would be getting ~60FPS, I could only do 40 on the Thunderbolt interface. It's definitely not a bandwidth issue, more likely a Thunderbolt issue with how it works. That Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling possibly would reduce that limitation, except NVIDIA decided to make it only compatible with 10 series and up, and me having a 980, well, I can't test that.
