SuperData, a leading digital gaming research company have recently released their global game market analysis for November. The report includes some interesting statistics including that digital games earned 11.5 billion USD in November 2020, the highest monthly revenue ever. One of the most interesting pieces of information in the report was about Among Us, specifically that the game had roughly half a billion monthly active users in November. This user base is mainly from mobile players where the game can be downloaded for free, PC players only made up 3% of active players. The title is now by far the most popular game ever in terms of monthly players. The game is also expected to become even more popular as it is released on consoles.

I gave it a try, some of my friends play it. Wasn't for me though, got bored after one round. Town of Salem is better than this game in the same genre, however, most humans like violence, so Among Us wins as Town of Salem has no violence, but is a similar concept.

I know a couple guy from office migrated from PC to mobile, mobile version of this game is actually pretty decent, usually mobile port get castrated hard, but this kind of game is perfect for mobile port. Easy to control, low hardware requirement, simple graphic style, small screen friendly, short enough turn time....... conbining all these I bet the game will remain relevant in mobile market for quite sometime.

You do realize that it was ported from mobile to PC? And the PC port is pretty crap, constant dc's and bugs, at least they did something about the hackers fairly quickly.

Well.... This is once again more marketing bullsheet. I used to do some data mining for some investors (still do for myself of course) so I know where to look and what to look for.

According to the data sheets I've collected (and no you are not going to get the data) Umong us is starting on the Decline. By saying that 1 out 14 people in this world is playing this game is laughable to those who know how to use those data points to look into things.

But it looks good saying BAZILLIONS OF active PEoPLE ARE PLAYING OuR GAME BECAUSE IT'S GOOD... uWu.... So you SHOULD TOO"!!!

It's all market speak guys and that is all.

I will say that there actual player base is around the same as CP2077. But it does not have the same impact of 500 MILLION "active" PLAYERS when you use Market Speak.

Market Speak... It's what gerbils want to eat. That and soy products...:nutkick:

Huh, is that so? I thought the PC version came out first, no wonder the control works great on mobile.

Right there with you. No real interest either...

It's a bit like Mafia. You are players on a map (say a broken starship), each player gets tasks to do: repair computers, shoot down incoming asteroids, that kind of thing. One player (or more?) is an impostor and his object is to kill the others. The impostor can use air vents to move around sneakily and can kill anyone, and he can sabotage systems. If a corpse is discovered and reported players gather automatically for a timed discussion and a vote for who they will toss out the airlock (this discussion can alsp be initated by a player without a corpse being found). If it was the impostor, the crew wins, otherwise the game continues. If the impostor manages to kill all but one crew before the repairs/tasks are done he wins. Most variables can be changed, how fast you run, how long you have to discuss and how long you have to vote. It is fast paced (the rounds are quick) and highly entertaining with friends over voice chat, and it can be played cross platform, meaning Steam players, Android/iOS and console players all play the same game and no platform has upsides, and the mobile controls are great. If you're a ""real" gamer and consider yourself above the stuff for the unwashed masses this isn't for you, but this is a game most people enjoy, even ones who normally don't like video games, and you can play it on literally almost anything. It feels closer to a board game than a video game tbh. Just a simple but enjoyable game loop, and the rounds usually don't last long so even if you're killed early it's ok. I have only played it with an AFK friend group over Google Meet and it was a lovely time. As with everything else, the people involved will be detrimental to the experience.

EDIT: After som more thinking it's not a great video game as such. It's more like a vehicle for hanging with your friends, and with the right friends it's a total blast. I can imagine it being horrible if people aren't into it or if they are the kind of people who has to win and whine when they don't.

You do realize that it was ported from mobile to PC? And the PC port is pretty crap, constant dc's and bugs, at least they did something about the hackers fairly quickly.

The PC version is fine. I haven't seen bugs in it (and I don't know what dc means in this context).

I gave it a try, some of my friends play it. Wasn't for me though, got bored after one round. Town of Salem is better than this game in the same genre, however, most humans like violence, so Among Us wins as Town of Salem has no violence, but is a similar concept.

Read about Town of Salem, and according to wikipedia it absolutely has violence? The teams eliminate the other team and lynch the votees. It does seem a lot more like actual Mafia (or wherewolf) were the Mafia only kills people during the night and there are a bunch of jobs/roles with different abilities. Or do you mean it has no physical violence? Anyway the base game requires 16 players, Among Us can do with much less (4-10). Seems interesting, but it also looks a lot slower and bigger and more serious. Among Us is tight and slighlty chaotic and fast, which for me felt like a big part of why it worked so well.

EDIT: Reading more of Town of Salem and it definitely looks like Werefolf but on a computer. Which is fine if you like Werewolf, but Among Us isn't the same thing.

Same, only heard about it way after it picked up the 'hype' and I was like what?

Not exactly interested in co-op games, don't have a single friend who plays such but even then its not my cup of tea.

It's less co op and more stabbing friends and then lying to their faces about it and getting Sharon spaced. :D

Its obviously 500 million logins over the entire period of November so yeah that is not very impressive. Divide by 30 for daily count and then again divide by probably 24 for daily concurrent logins :D

And that's in the middle of a global pandemic, too :nutkick:

Co op as in you need ~normal friends to play with, I don't have that in the first place.

Checked some gameplay anyway, definitely not my kind of game but I can understand why many likes it.

I'd say "slightly abnormal" is best for this kind of thing.

The PC version is fine. I haven't seen bugs in it (and I don't know what dc means in this context).

Disconnect. Gotten a lot better since mid Nov don't remember getting disconnected in that period.
