ASUS on its support website has inadvertently confirmed some of the rumors and speculations of recent months - ever since the official release of AMD's RX 6000-series, really. Not to be outdone by AMD, NVIDIA apparently sees the need to fill the gap between its RTX 3080 10 GB graphics card at a virtual $699 and its top-of-the-line RTX 3090 graphics card at #$1,499 - better to compete with the RX 6900 at (an also virtual) $999. Thus ASUS listed a ROG-STRIX-RTX3080TI-O20G-GAMING and a ROG-STRIX-RTX3080TI-20G-GAMING, alongside some... interesting ROG-STRIX-RTX3060-O12G-GAMING and ROG-STRIX-RTX3060-12G-GAMING.

Thus it is seemingly confirmed that NVIDIA dropped official plans to offer the RTX 3080 in 20 GB GDDR6X flavor, and is instead packing its RTX 3080 Ti with that amount of graphics memory - that should serve to make the model even more attractive to users who were still trying to get an RTX 3080 series, as the drama surrounding that cards' 10 GB of VRAM is well-known across the tech industry and consumers. However, the RTX 3060 being listed in a 12 GB GDDR6 version (with a certain 6 GB version being on its way as well) really is puzzling; that graphics card, which is expected to pack only 3840 CUDA cores in its GA106 chip, will run out of shading and RT power long before that VRAM pool is exhausted. NVIDIA's chip structure is becoming ever more confusing in this 30-series, at least. The announcement for the new graphics cards is expected to take place come January 12th.

You are more likely to find and buy cocaine, an AK and ammo, grenades, an RPG or slaves rather than get a RTX 3xxx or RX 6xxx card.
I managed to find an 3070 and a 3080 on Amazon, but I paid 650€ and 900€ for them... and it wasn't easy. Hours and hours of refreshes on the website...

Why? VRAM is mostly filled by textures. While not ideal, you can run future games at lower graphic detail but higher textures, since they are free as long as you have the vram. Also, it isn't about using 12 GB, it's about using more than 6.

It would have to be 20GB if it were 320-bit and GA102 GPU. Can't be a GA104. Be most optimal to just give it 16GB and keep the 256 bit bus and GA104 GPU.

TI usually keeps the bitmemory, I hope the same happens with 3070ti, reason 3060ti is much more attractive than the 3070, bit memory 256 and at $399.

Agree, but to be fair to nVidia they didn't lie in Japan at least, the cards are listed with "real" MSRP, 700$, 1100$, 2000$ for the 3070,80 and 90 respectively.
The issue is the websites and YouTube channels than continue to spread lies, especially related to value.
As for the story, I believe the 3080 should have had 16gb of vram, 10gb are just not enough for 4k ultra, the 3070 also didn't offer anything special with its 8gb, and was effectively killed when nVidia launched the 3060ti with the same 8gb of vram.
AMD si worse than all of them, the 6800 when available costs more than the 3080.

There are maybe a handful of games the 3080 cannot handle at 4K maxed out--even less if you incorporate DLSS--and those games the 3090 with its 140% more VRAM also struggles. There are no games that actually require this much VRAM to run. Most games just dump as much into VRAM as they can because it's there. That's how we ended up with The Witcher 3 using under 2GB of VRAM at 4K, but Black Ops 3 "using" 8GB+ at 1080p.

this shortage is the mining craze all over again. same cancerous leeches, feeding off the industry, ruining it for the enthusiasts. Amazon, newegg, etc should remove 3rd party sellers, or implement MSRP pricing guidelines, let these jerks sell on ebay , where the scammers belong, but we all know retailer are 100% complicit.
im so sick of my upgrades , or purchase choices being influenced by some 'company' called superlegittechstore staffed solely by a jerk selling components worth $800 for $3500.

Not sure if mining is the culprit this time, my feeling is with the virus people have more money from not traveling, plus now more time to actually game.
Besides the potential influence on logistics, my guess is these are the two factors why demand is way over supply.

There are multiple occasions I wanted to place order for 3060Ti/3070, just can't really do it when I see how much I am paying above the so called MSRP

It could also be used for work, for anyone who can't afford or simply doesn't want to pay almost 2000 for 3090.

That's the MSRP. If scalpers gobbled up all the stock and are re-selling the cards at higher prices, that isn't nVidia lying. That's scalpers ripping people off.

This. Pretty easy now to get a card at MSRP, or a bit above for a custom card if you know where to look and fast enough. There's an entire Discord channel for it that has bots to notify you when it detects one in stock.

Custom cards will always be $30-200 above the founders card MSRP, maybe that is what hes talking about.

I beg to differ for a few reasons, this is a high end card and should be able to continue delivering good performance for a couple of years like the 1080ti.
Secondly, we don't have true next gen games yet, wait for next gen games with better textures.

So your argument is, the 3080 is crippled, because it cannot run games that aren't out yet? That's quite the argument.

Since the MSRP of 3060 Ti, 3070 & 3080 is €419, €519 & €719 respectively in Europe, if the prices are that high, then you should be blaming the retailers, custom AIB card manufacturers & local import tax for charging you that much.

scalpers ? I'm not speaking about the idiots selling a 3070 at 1000€ or a 3080 at 1300€. I'm speaking about BIG RETAILERS selling the 3070 around 650/700€ and the 3080 at 850/900€ all over Europe.

Again, that's the stores prerogative, nVidia doesn't control what resellers charge. If you don't like it, buy online. EVGA always has a card in each model that is at or very near MSRP for aftermarket cards.

yes... if you live in Indiana USA maybe...
EVGA prices in Europe are just like others: MSRP is something just non existing outside USA.
