AMD just revealed the top four changes with its new AGESA 1.1.9.0 microcode update, which motherboard manufacturers and OEMs will release via UEFI firmware updates in January and February, 2021. Beta firmware updates with 1.1.9.0 have already been floating around for the past couple of weeks. To begin with, the new AGESA enables support for the S0i3 power state of Windows 10, more commonly known as Modern Standby. Next up, AMD claims that firmware updates with 1.1.9.0 should improve system stability in the FCLK 1800 MHz to 2000 MHz range.

Next up, AMD mentions support for "fanless X570 motherboards." We're not entirely sure whether this means a fan-down mode on existing X570 motherboards, or whether a new wave of motherboards based on the chipset is incoming, which lacks active cooling for the chipset (and makes do with passive heatsinks). One such board is the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero. Perhaps the firmware assists in helping the X570 chipset maintain a lower TDP. Wrapping things up, AMD mentions "general stability improvements," which are always welcome. Keep probing the "support" section of your motherboard's product page on its company website for the latest firmware updates.

In last day of 2020 asrock released beta bios for x570 taichi with that agesa so manufacturers are already pushing it. As for fanless operation here is info from taichi changelog: "Optimize X570 chipset fan curve and also support zero RPM in silent mode.". I haven't tested yet, most likely i will wait for stable release even if beta releases worked fine for me so far.

It would be nice if AMD could give me no crashes in World of Warcraft... even at stock I still crash once an hour or two. really freaking annoying, some googling discovered a lot of AMD owners as far back as 2xxx owners had similar issues but only with WoW.

luckily im almost done with WoW as I just wanted to finish the new campaigns. so hopefully moving forward no more crashes in other games

that's just WoW showing up a system instability, as always with ryzen check your ram and IMC settings cause its usually those (and they dont always show in stress test programs)

ya if i disable PBO WoW works fine, if I enable it... crashes... makes no sense, i dont even mess with any other settings... I guess PBO is just luck of the draw when it shouldn't be at all...

I’m debated about updating my B550 motherboard at this point. I’m using a 3900X and the system is very stable with the last BIOS I’m using, but here they are reporting improvin stability for FCLK 1800, which is what I’m running with 3600 DDR4...

To be honest PBO is overclocking , so it is luck off the draw by definition...

Sometimes (rarely) even stock settings need tuning.... I bet that with a few changes here and there your rig would be rock solid. I would first start with power calibration levels for CPU and SoC.

Yeah, I might be mistaken but I remember seeing reviews that Ryzen CPU manual overclocking sometimes reduces performance which is weird or there isn't a real difference . AMD already noted and said that better RAM is a better solution to increase performance. (Not speaking about FCLK overclock).

All cores overclock could improve multi core performance at the expense of single core boost...

PBO is a bad OC because it dumps a lot of voltage to increase frequency. I would recommend undervolting for stability with CTR .

PBO is something you're meant to tweak

my chips locked to 80W multi threaded because summer, without affecting my single threaded scores

I can confirm, chipset fan goes to zero speed even in Balance mode in Bios for GIGABYTE X570 motherboards. Triggers when temp of chipset is above 60C and goes back to zero speed when below 57C.

That was always the default behaviour on my X570 Master since Ryzen 3000 series launch day, it's not new for GB boards.

just an update - im 100% stable now with a 4.6 all core oc in mobo with loadline calibration at mode 4 - 1.360 volt and SoC voltage at 1.15- and "msi's memory try it" feature 3466 cas 14-14-14 - all fully stable no more crashes in WoW.

honestly for the prices i paid, i can't complain one bit. i might try for a custom 4000 ram at some point - but im waiting for dram calculator update before i attempt

1.360 V for Vcore seems quite a lot to me...

Last time I overclocked my 3900X (now at stock with -0.9 V undervolt) it was set at 1.260 V (2 CCD @ 4.4 GHz and 2 CCD @ 4.2 GHz).

The damn fans on the motherboards is the last thing (aside from not being able to find any Zen3 CPUs in eshops :D) that's stopping me from upgrading.
If anything like this is coming, I'll happily wait.

Yeah it might degrade in time.

It was mainly for benchmarking purposes, I just have PBO enabled now and all seems well. Looks like it was just unstable ram OC that was ruining everything, that had to be lowered from 3600 cas 14-14-14 to 3466 cas 14-14-14

so PBO enabled no all core oc anymore, scores are decent. temps are amazing. so im good

I like the eco mode PBO setting, 65W doesnt hurt my gaming scores at all

If i adjust a curve to go with that, i'll get more grunt from that juice too

Just tried this latest beta bios including this update and finally the pch fan now stops, and the curve seems to be better optimized as it runs only at 800rpm when reaching 58°

did not try any OC as I'm happy with my original voltages/frequencies

that's a nice budget setup you got there. make sure your ram is running at advertised speeds. enable DOCP or XMP at least for the ram. if you don't enable anything it will just run at 2133. and ryzen really loves fast ram.

Yes by original I meant before updating to this agesa which supposedly improves OC, I'm running 3533C16 and I can really feel the difference with the stock 2133 ;)
