From what I've seen so far, Rocketlake isn't the ' AMD killer ' so many seem to have been hoping for, but let's see how it performs when reviewed before making any judgements.
And yes, I agree with others; 6.9GHz under Ln2 is n't exactly spectacular but again, it's almost certainly a ES chip on a ( at best ) Beta motherboard, so I'm sure there's plenty more to come.
AMD killer :D If ten years of Bulldozer didn't kill AMD, nothing will.

You can't they have strict rules about having large heat sources in private ownership. ;)

Your tone clearly got a provocative hint, but Intel not getting the favors of the tech media was their own doing. After sandy bridge they decided to kickback and do the minimum, so Intel dominance ended up being boring with only a few interesting experiments here and there, like the eDRAM, but that was only for Broadwell. They took all their time in the world to make higher core count available on the mainstream plateforme at a mainstream price because without competition they didn't have the motivation to try hard.

Intel could have used a couple more years being humble, they need to get into their skull that resting on their laurels is not something that a tech company should do. That's one of the biggest reasons as to why Intel bashing has become an International sport on reddit. If we were under the impression that they were actually trying, their very best before Ryzen spooked them, the community wouldn't have bashed them. You can say that this is what's called "though love". Everyone is aware that they got huge funds, that they have talented engineers, both on the CPU and foundry side, but they got too cocky after 15 years of dominance and they needed to have a reality check.

The current situation with the lower nodes is nothing to be happy about, if no one else can compete with TSMC, or if they can't manage to increase their output, the futur is going to grim and Intel might be tempted to take it easy again. A true monoply is the last thing that we need.
Truth indeed.

AMD killer :D If ten years of Bulldozer didn't kill AMD, nothing will.
Bit like Japanese Knotweed, eh? Virtually impossible to kill.
Seriously, though, the last thing we need is another monopoly, knock Intel all you want, praise AMD all you want, but we NEED both to be healthy to stimulate innovation and keep prices in check.

AVX512 is a joke. Have you seen the feature table? What a mess... Nobody is using this seriously unless Intel is sponsoring their development.

Its just a talking point for intel fans when the majority of them only play games, and don't even have any software that uses it.

Those that can benefit from it are in the enterprise space but as you have shown above still very small use case.

And or possibly do something at that speed perhaps but I'm with you, a max ln2 run way below any record is a massive meh.
Gets pretty hard to push such high speeds with smaller nodes though, i feel these records should be node specific.
AMD's 8.7GHz at 32nm is pretty damn impressive for an 8 core CPU though

Hi there,

I'm using the z490 Extreme4 motherboard with P1.20 current update and Kingston m.2 SSD not showing for Windows 10 setup. Basically go to install windows and my m.2 SSD is not being recognised even though I can see it in the BIOS. I have tried many things such as disabling CSM but still not showing up. I have even formatted the SSD and still can't see it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Excellent, finally a CPU lineup that won't be OUT of STOCK. Tech medias will no longer be talking about Zen 3 once Rocket Lake is released.
How could you determine that supply will be great when the product is not even launched though? While it is annoying that the supply of AMD Zen 3 is so limited, given the reasons given by AMD and Nvidia, the supply constraints are partially due to limited substrates/ components for the fabs, which may potentially impact Intel as well.

In my opinion, Intel's launch of Rocket Lake is unlikely to attract a lot of potential Ryzen buyers. Unless you literally don't mind having a hot rocket in your computer, then this may be an option for you. To get the most out of the Rocket Lake, you need it to run as fast a clockspeed as it can achieve, which also means its gonna need around 250W of power. If you have a 250W CPU and a close to 350W GPU in your desktop, you better make sure you got some serious cooling in there.

Yeah, and my car can do 300 mph on the moon. I seriously don't understand the interest in LN2 overclocking.

Car racing on the moon sounds awesome.

Anyway it's an enthusiast thing. It serves no practical purpose.

We don't even know if rocket lake is bench stable at these clocks.

But no matter what, 6.9 ghz on ln2 is not that impressive compared to what other CPU's have achieved before.

If it cut do 6.9 ghz on air or normal water cooling. That had been a hole nother story then and gotten my attention. But with LN2, I just feel it's like been there done that now it's time to move on.

Also rocket lake is not that impressive on its own either. It is still 14nm, only 8 cores. It might be a new core design, but still 14nm.

Oof. That's bringing me back to the days when I owned a Pentium 4 630. Way to make me feel old.
I know the feeling. Just that I remember these old cpu's hitting 8 ghz or more makes feel old.

Also been nearly 12 years now on intels X58 platform makes me feel old, thinking back.

Ah, the sound of dial-up modems... Today's youth get cranky when YouTube buffers for more than 3 seconds... on their moble phones, in a remote wood or something!

I guess a lucky few remember browsing pr0n on a dial-up. Halfway the picture was loaded and most of were done. :D

its funny right how intel 10th gen is readily available and AMD is out of stock...wonder if that means that more people (want to) buy AMD?
Yeah, really funny. Especially since the 10th gen was launched in Q2 and Zen3 in Q4, and Zen3 is in huge demand compared to the 10th gen. And even under these circumstances I had no problem finding and buying a Zen 3 CPU. 3 out of 4 CPUs are available at the moment in stock:

Back? What do you mean it was never there
It was in it's infancy.

And no, it won't be.
yup if that was the case people would been doing Bitcoin mining on Zen cpu's since they have supported SHA since Zen 1
It literally started as a cpu program, we have a thread where people ran it here on TPU, it far predates even Haswell lol.

It wasn't always about making money.
