Arctic MX-5 Thermal Compound Listed Ahead of Launch

Arctic is readying its first new high-performance thermal compound in over a decade, the MX-5. 4-gram syringes of the compound started surfacing on Amazon UK, where it's listed for £13.59 (includes UK VAT). The listing does not mention the all-important thermal conductivity or viscosity figures for the compound, but mentions that it is not metal-based (doesn't contain metal particles), is electrically non-conductive (so you can use it on bare FCBGAs/FCPGAs without an IHS) and is designed to hold integrity up to 8 years after an application. The listing mentions a "ships by" date of March 15, 2021, which is also its release date.

Update Jan 25th: Arctic released a statement on Twitter regarding the availability of the MX-5.

The ARCTIC MX-5 will be officially released on March 15. Since there are only a few quantities at the beginning, a pre-sale will be done via Amazon and our website. Unfortunately, we cannot predict Amazon availability, so please check Amazon availability on your own.

I just hope someone will make a proper test of all the new ones and that they will use something with high TDP so the difference is more pronounced instead of, like, 3800X. I'm really interested in getting the best one to go along with that passive Noctua tower later in the year...

I actually tried that one out, but after repeative attempts i got worse temps then the stock paste that was on the AIO.

A wall of text with words like "Secure, Outstanding, Easy, Versatile" is nice but it's not very informational.

My two best performers to date are Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and Cooler Master MasterGel Maker. Both in the 11w/mK-12.5w/mK range.

I've gone MX4 in the past, with no complaints. Going through a tube of Noctua NT-H2 at the moment which performs a deg or two worse than Kyronaut on my GPU. I'll keep this MX5 in mind once that runs out.

That new Kryonaut looks interesting. I am using TFX right now, originally because it was what I could get at the time.. but I like it and considering buying a big 6.2g tube of TFX or 12.5g of TF8 which I was using before with really good results.

So since they are not releasing specs, its pretty safe to call this MX-4.5? Probably just a little better than before..

Depends on what kind of benching. If it's CPU OC then you definitely want to have the best paste possible even if it is expensive.

The actual differences in TIM performance are marginal. Even ArcticSilver5 is still a great performer.

Depends I mean I just flipped CPUs and used MX-4 because I have a 50g syringe. But I would totally use Grizzly if I had some but AM4 terrible socket and my WB means I get the “suck” and don’t feel like switching and risk bent pins

from personal experience i didn't noticed better cooling between different tim's ... contact area barely had traces of tim if both surfaces are flat and lapped properly...
