i can see Blu-ray being and unused feature on the next gen media recorders just like DVD-RAM, me personally i am waiting for the combined drives which will soon be on the way general retail.

Benchmark Scores This varies from one driver to another.
Who wants to use a drive for BR discs and a drive for your regualr DVD/CD backups? Other then for movie purposes it's not practical as a backup media yet unless you are just getting started. Or, willing to convert all your current DVD/CD backups into BR.

I can understand your point on media prices, but most Blu-Ray burners read and burn DVD at least.
