L-com, an Infinite Electronics brand and a preferred manufacturer of wired and wireless connectivity products, announced today that it has introduced a new series of audio/video, active optical cables (AOC) that were developed to extend high quality audio and video signals up to 100 meters without the use of a repeater.

L-com's new AOC cables include HDMI 2.0 assemblies, DisplayPort 1.4 cable assemblies and DVI video cable assemblies. Each series features cable lengths ranging from 10 meters up to 100 meters off-the-shelf. These new long-reach AOC cables are lightweight and flexible, require no external power supply and are resistant to EMI and RFI.

The new HDMI AOC cables feature resolutions up to 4K@60Hz, compatibility with HDMI 2.0, EDID, HDR, HDCP (2.2) and multi-channel audio support. The DVI AOC cables support resolutions to 1080p and 4K2K as well as source connectors that are programmable to store EDID information. Lastly, the new DisplayPort AOC cables provide 8.1 Gbps per channel, support for 8K@60Hz, HBR3, HDCP 1.4/2.2 and a slim 4.8 mm outer diameter cable.

"Many times, our customers require the extension of digital audio and video signals well beyond the various standards' length limitations. Our new AOC cables were designed to address these types of applications where the need to extend A/V signals without the use of a repeater is a requirement," said Paul Hospodar, Product Line Manager.

L-com's new HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort AOC Cables are in-stock and available for immediate shipment.

These are really neat using digital to optical converters right in the plug, of course they are really expensive because of it.

They are initially quite expensive, however work out very cheap on longer runs as you don't need powered converters on either end. I have a 10m fibre optic DP lead which works wonders but it could easily be 10x as long and still operate at the same spec.

One downside is that all the optical cables are "one-way". With traditional cables either end can be used to plug in to either side, not so much with the optical cables.
Still, cheaper than getting Ethernet extensions.

'bout friggin time, cause now when they start wiring my new house in April, there won't be any length restrictions on where my hardware can go :)

And I'm sure these will be expensive, but not nearly as much as my local installer quoted me for the custom-made cables he proposed to make for me, which would have been WAY over the amount I had budgeted for connecting everything together .....

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
Are these news? I bought eight of something similar with a 50m fibre run for a 360-degree projection onto a sculpture at an exhibition we set up. That was, uh (checks diary) October 2019.

IIRC the were somewhere under a hundred bucks each and certainly not new on the market at that point - I treated them as commodity accessories that I remember seeing around for the best part of a decade already.

What type of performance might you be able to push at 1 meter or 2 meters with optical is what I'm curious about.

In other news - water is still wet.

I mean there are literally dozens of different brands selling these available on Amazon. These can be had for as low as $30 USD for HDMI 2.1 optical cable.

Whatever the laser transducer and encoder/decoder IC are capable of.
