This is called "clearing the channel".... simply put, they are dumping off all the old cpu's at reduced prices so that when the next gen ones come out in a few months, folks who are building/upgrading from older systems won't be able to find or get anything else other than the new ones....
In other words, take a small margin hit now, for BIG returns later, which will be ever bigger, given the jacked up prices for the new ones
