Anything short of Barcelona beating C2Q like C2D beat A64 will be a waste of time. People aren't going to gravitate to Barcelona (maybe a few fans). Another reason that many don't know yet is that we've reach the a ceiling were newer CPUs are not adding much to performance when resolutions are 1680x1050 or higher. Unless, the game/program is heavily optimized for that CPU (supreme commander comes to mind and the increase is arguable at best). As we've seen, although XP doesn't properly utilize C2D or C2Q like Vista, it still provides better frame rates then Vista. So how is it that an unoptimized OS can provide better frame rates then an OS that is optimized for 2 or 4 cores? If this is the case, no matter how much Barcelona beats C2Q (if that turns out to be true) it won't mean much when gaming (again unless the game is optimized to use that CPU). However, this remains to be seen, I reserve my opinion until then as the very opposite can happen.

Latest benchmarks of the K10 are quite discouraging.....I guess their staff sees that and they decide to leave the ship before it sinks. Damn it i was expecting for things to go better not worse.

Turn overs like this never look good. Regardless of the reasoning behind it.

just one thing - trust me, sup com at 1680x1050 is still way CPU bound. i can alt tab and disable cores one by one, and it drops a lot

max zoomed out to make sure its the same image

4 cores - 99 fps
3 - 80
2- 60-65
1- 30-40

it really does make a diff, i went quad because of that game ;)

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
ATI was a good acquisition for AMD, it just sucks that the card they were working on going into the deal isn't showing well. It just sucks that the chips AMD had coming were subpar compared to the competition. It is just a bad time to cut a fab upgrade to keep the people investing the money happy.

ATI was having the largest success they ever had.
AMD was having the largest success they ever had.

What went wrong was both companies had no more left waiting in the wing, only a bunch of hungry for returns investors. But the real problem lies in the fact that AMD was doing a buyback and buying ATI stock before the buyout was announced. That left them more cash strapped than ever, then with the price of stocks falling after their initial investment has turned sour.

Simple economy, with the VP's jumping ship, more than likely being asked to leave to conserve cash, before their benefits are cut, before they cause the loss of the jobs to people who actually make the product.

Sup Com = the worst cpu optimized game ever made, with DiRT right behind it. There has never been an rts that required lots of hardware.

For vista itself it is better coded, however microsoft has this wish to constantly out do itself with the shit factor in its products. I'm talking about the shit none of us are ever going to use that is enabled by default. In xp for example unless you disable it, you have a wifi scanner constantly running and checking for new wifi connections. This runs even if you don't have a wifi device installed.

Vista does this times ten. Hell if I ever install vista its going to be home basic, no aero, no media center, none of the shit to slow down my comp.

i'd argue this with you (except sup com - it needs too much CPU power) but this thread isnt the place for that. lets leave this about AMD from now on.

Until we see benchmarks from reviewers using retail versions of Barcelona chips, those "benchmarks" you speak of, are still highly speculative.

I think the staff at AMD definitely knows the performance of their new chips, especially their vice president. Maybe they know their Barcelona won't perform on par with Intel's equivalent and left the company. I wouldn't see why the vice president along with the two others would leave almost right before the launch of Barcelona if the chip was going to outperform Intel's C2D/Penryn.
