Recently appointed Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has announced via Twitter that the company will be holding a webcast on March 23rd - likely in the toes of Rocket Lake's actual release, which is expected towards the end of the month. The webcast, titled "Intel Unleashed", seems to serve as the premier event with Pat Gelsinger firmly entrenched on Intel's reins, and should be a tour de force for Intel's strengths, planned execution on product development and release, and growth opportunities - and, if we're being honest, a frontal recognizance of Intel's current weaknesses. for now, the only information Pat Gelsinger put forwards is that this is a business update, and that "exciting things" are coming in 2021.

That might be what this is about, it doesn't say CPU anywhere, and I am sure Intel sees a great chance here to capitalize on the gpu craze.

If they released a huge batch of something like 3070, even with price a bit higher than its MSRP, with usable drivers, and even with sucky energy efficiency, they would be heroes.

As Intel controls everything in their supply chain and have no (that we know of) partners for these they could hit a home run with a $300 RX 6800, 3070 competitor. Where Intel is going to try to make a play though is utilizing the IGPU to help in anyway that it can, That could be the reason why AMD still uses Vega in their APUs so that they have a response when this happens.

Intel is targeting entry level mainstream with their 1st gen GPU's - they want large scale adoption and realize that, there is no way at this point they can compete with Nvidia and AMD at the top.

Get GPU's into as many systems as possible and support adoption of the brand.

If Intel can turn out a competitive GPU then all we will need is NVIDIA to start work on a traditional desktop CPU and then all three of them can compete in both areas.

Not sure how exciting, but I am expecting Tiger Lake H, Alder Lake and GPU to be announced. Considering that the incoming CEO did not get involved in the planning of 2021/2022 products, this sounds more like marketing of whatever plans made by the previous CEO, that's already in flight.

I feel its better to manage our expectations here. While Intel has the hardware expertise to churn out decent hardware, I feel its the software (driver) side of things that may disappoint.

They just “unleashed” a new commercial with the old “I’m a Mac” guy to fire back at Apple. Intel has really upped the negative ad and slide campaign. I sure hope this event isn’t more of the same.

Intel graphic driver for low power part has always been pretty stable, especially for production task that leverage quicksync.
However, XE drivers seems to deviate from that trend, my fear is that Intel try to push even harder in DG2, and result in poor stability/compatibility.

These adds so awful he might still be working for Apple as double agent. Intel marketing is seriously as clueless as it gets...

When the new CEO stepped in, in one of his first interviews, he said that Intel can't be getting beat by a "lifestyle" company. Not but a month or two later, they launch anti-Apple ads with the "I'm a Mac" guy. I guess the marketing department got the assignment.
