These spikes take like milliseconds not a constant power draw. I got a 750Watt power supply and it is working fine. No glitches or restarts. So it is a bit strange to me though recommending a 900Watt power supply. Maybe spikes are the case but there's no specific explanation why these actually occur and if this happens on every system. Probably it does.
There should have been a shutdown or PSU switch off if the power delivery exceeds what the PSU can deliver.

What is also important.
AMD recommends a 700Watt power supply for the 6900 XT for 2x8pin connectors. RX 6900 XT Red Devil for instance has 3x8pin power connectors. Maybe it is because of the 3 pins? Either way all 6900 XT's have the same power limit lock in the driver. they will not exceed the power limit despite how many power 8pin connectors they have.

Yeah I'm sure the potato would have to generate way above 900Watts to be useful :p
It just baffles me with that 900Watts PSU requirements.

Powercolor is mentioning an unclocked bios as it is written above and also mentioned on their website.
So that maybe the reason for 900W recommendation.

The Sky is the Limit
No longer shackled by clock limitations with AMD's Overclocking tool; if your card allows, the sky is your limit.

I wonder if 332W they mention for Liquid Devil Ultimate is Core power taking into account 15% that one can add with Radeon Power slider or just bios limit and you can still add extra 15% through the slider.
If later is the case, then total GPU Core power in 381.8W.
Add to that another 45W for other components on the PCB makes GPU power consumption of 427W.:p

Maybe also they have in mind that you can combine it with something like 11900k that has 350w peak power. :D

This Statement on PowerColor website is interesting.
If this is true than these bads boys should have better OC headroom.

Highly Binned GPUs
Every overclocker knows that every GPU is different; sometimes, one can get lucky and find a card that can be highly overclocked due to the silicon lottery. With the PowerColor RED DEVIL ULTIMATE and LIQUID DEVIL ULTIMATE cards, you remove the element of chance and guarantee a specially binned GPU with exceptional overclocking – PowerColor assures performance every time.

Mindfactory in Germany had both these in stock today.
The price is though really scary 1999€ and 2349€ for normal and Liquid Ultimate respectively.:fear:
It seems one pay the premium for good binned chip.

Unlocked BIOS? That can't be true although would have made a lot of sense. The 6800xt and 6900xt are known to have potential for OC. If that is true, the question here is, can I for instance, get the unlocked bios on my Red Devil and unlock it? Wouldn't that be awesome?

That's a lot of cash. I honestly think that I played not as much for my 6900xt if you look at the prices now.

It seems to be the case for the 6900XT Red Devil Ultimate as PowerColor mentions on their website that these cards are not shackled by AMD driver limits and they also mention that these are high binned.
On Guru3D some membered mentioned that new cards will have 1.2V and 4000MHz limit.

It does not help with all the 6900XT to remove limits.
As you remember I tested a 6900XT Red Devil and Sapphire Toxic Limited Edition and on these I was not even able to reach 2.7GHz with 384W and 384A TDC.
Maybe higher voltage could help and maybe not.
Only thing in current cards that we cannot do is change voltage and frequency. For power related topics the MorePowerTool can already do that and no need for a bios mod.
Making higher frequency limit will not help anyway with most of 6900XT as they are not able to reach 3GHz anyway.

Watched some reviews yesterday about these Ultimate Red Devils. There isn't a lot to talk about. You can move slider far for core for instance but these doesn't change much since the vcore is still locked. You can't squeeze a lot out of these anyway. Not sure what was the point unlocking sliders in the driver but still constrain the cards with power delivery.

I am not sure what these reviewers are doing wrong.
The ones that reviewed the Ultimate with air cooler.
Yes these GPUs are more power limited by default. Only allowed power setting for those is 303W. Add to that 15% from Radeon slider, you have 348W. One needs MPT to push it further.

But the Liquid Devil Ultimate is another beast. It has two bioses.
The second "Uleash bios" has default setting of 332W with 15% from Radeon Software slider you have 382W headroom. :D

I own one 6900XT Lquid Devil Ultimate since Saturday. :D
I bought it as birthday gift for myself as the replacement for my damaged 6800XT. :p

This card is a monster of performance I can say already with the first short test session.
I had very little time on weekend to play around with it due to my birthday :D and with just a little tuning only on the Core frequency, I was able to get it stable running at 2750MHz@1175mV. Fire Strike Stress test passed score of 98.8% with these settings.

This is the Time Spy score.
I have not yet at all tuned VRAM. I believe the score will go in direction of 22K ones I tune the VRAM frequency. :D

1618813646673.png

In Assassin's Creed Valhalla, this is already 11% faster than my 6800XT which was overclocked to 2750MHz@1020mV and gave 123 FPS on average and here it is 137 FPS. :D
1618813868495.png

Here are the settings that I used:

For the air-cooled Ultimate, one need to apply some more power with MPT as default with OC bios is only 303W.
I had chat with W1zzard on Sunday and he provided me with a beta GPU-Z which now supports these new cards. Thanks @W1zzard for the help. :lovetpu:

So I was able to save the bios to load it into MPT.
Note: One needs MPT version 1.3.4. The older version 1.3.3 does not support these new cards.

I have not changed anything with MPT so far, but only looked at default settings for the Uleash bios.
So you can see below that 332W is default, i.e. 382W total power with 15% slider.
There is still performance on the table. Looking at the TDC, it is set to 320A by default.
It can be pushed further in direction of 382A to match with Core power. :D

I received my Liquid Devil 6900XT Ultimate and there's nothing on the sealed retail box indicating it's Ultimate except for a small product description/ UPC sticker on the side. This is unlike the product advertisement on Powercolor's website. Is that the same for yours too? I bought mine through Newegg (US retail). Thanks.

It seems PowerColor wanted to save money and used same boxes from the 6900XT Liquid Devil. :slap:

If you look with GPU-Z you will see 73AF as the new ID.

This is how it will look like if you use the GPU-Z v2.38.0.
It does not support the new card ID.

Great to know that. Hopefully sometime late May I can do an OC shootout between this card and a watercooled 3090 FTW3.

Have you tried OC or Undervolt? How far can it go? It is kinda interesting, how much better this binned version of silicon is compared to my Red Devil.

Have you tried OC or Undervolt? How far can it go? It is kinda interesting, how much better this binned version of silicon is compared to my Red Devil.

I think I answered your questions in the RDNA2 owner's thread: ;)

In Assassin's Creed Valhalla, this is already 11% faster than my 6800XT which was overclocked to 2750MHz@1020mV and gave 123 FPS on average and here it is 137 FPS. :D

Would you be willing to share that gpu-z beta? I want to use MPT to change the power limit of my Red Devil Ultimate to that of the Liquid Devil Ultimate. Also, I was able to get a Timespy GPU score of 21511 with my Red Devil Ultimate @2750 max clock and 2130 fast timings for the ram.

I sent you and W1zzard a private message with the link.
I didn't want to put the link here in thread without permission from @W1zzard.
He shared the GPU-Z beta with me. :)

You can also upload the Bios of your 6900XTU Red Devil Ultimate to TPU.
I have uploaded the Liquid Devil Ultimate to Bios database so that it is available to community here.

I did not play around with my Liquid Devil Ultimate ever since I did initial test with the score posted in owner's thread.
The last week has been very busy for me and did not get any chance to work on the 6900XTU.:(
