AMD has announced that Microsoft's Xbox Series S|X now features support for the company's FidelityFX suite. This move, which enabled previously PC-centric technologies on Microsoft's latest-generation gaming consoles, will bring feature parity between RDNA 2-powered graphics, and will eventually enable support for AMD's FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), the company's eventual competition to NVIDIA's DLSS tech.

This means that besides the technologies that are part of the DX 12 Ultimate spec (and which the consoles already obviously support), developers now have access to AMD's Fidelity FX technologies such as Contrast Adaptive Sharpening, Variable Rate Shading, ray traced shadow Denoiser, Ambient Occlusion and Screen Space Reflections. All of these AMD-led developments in the SDK allow for higher performance and/or better visual fidelity. However, the icing on the cake should be the FSR support, which could bring the Series X's 8K claims to bear (alongside high-refresh-rate 4K gaming) - should FSR turn out be in a similar performance-enhancing ballpark as NVIDIA's DLSS, which we can't really know for sure at this stage (and likely neither can AMD). No word on Fidelity FX support on the PS5 has been announced at this time, which does raise the question of its eventual support, or if Sony will enable a similar feature via their own development tools.

Tricky title. It is not the super resolution stuff. Then again AMD and RTG are not active in AI field so who knows how long it will take them to train neural model for DLSS like approaches.

Tricky title? At no point there is any sort of confusion in that FSR is or isn't supported. The title is as barebones as can be exactly not to be tricky.

I will also leave this here: AMD FSR

AMD approach is different, and they don't use neural training. At least that is what I understood from the information out there. It's a different tech with similar results

FSR will be part of the FidelityFX Suite when it becomes available.

As to this become available to Xbox, it does not come as a surprise. Xbox is pretty much running a pared down Windows if I am not mistaken. So adopting any Windows technology or vice versa shouldn't be so complicated. On the other hand, Sony that runs its own OS on Playstation may require a fair bit of work to get it working there if that ever happens. Ultimately if Sony chooses to skip this, I think they are making a terrible mistake because they may potentially also miss out FSR that is a big thing for consoles.

AMD's FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) better be good or AMDs Radeon division is done in dGPU market. DLSS really is a game changer. I hate the man in black leatherjacket, because he's as greedy as they get, but must admit that DLSS is awesome tech and will only get better with wider adoption.

Yeah .1 percent of all PC Games support DLSS. IF I know AMD it will be a across the other 99.9. Even if it is 1/2 as good the raw Gaming power of 6000 series leaves AMD with nothing to worry about from anything regardless of how we as enthusiasts feel about the importance of DLSS.

Still, Ngreedia owns 80% of gaming dGPU market. AMD needs to be better and cheaper for a two to three generations to change the mindset of PC market. The problem is AMD doesn't seem to want to compete for a retail dGPU market share with Nvidia. Maybe Intel entering the market with relatively cheap and hopefully at least half decent dGPUs will change the game.
