AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT and RX 6600 Surface in Regulatory Filing

Even as the desktop Radeon RX 6700 (non-XT) is nowhere in sight, AMD is planning to scale its RDNA2 graphics architecture further down, with the RX 6600 XT and RX 6600. Regulatory filings by board partner ASRock with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), for the unreleased RX 6600 XT and RX 6600, hit the web, courtesy Komachi Ensaka. The filings list out internal SKU numbers. An interesting thing to note here is that both the RX 6600 XT and RX 6600 could have 8 GB of memory as standard. Given that the RX 6700 series is already pulling up to 12 GB over a 192-bit wide memory bus, it's likely that the RX 6600 series could use a narrower 128-bit bus for its 8 GB, use the fastest 16 Gbps memory chips (at least on the XT variant), and attempt to shore up memory bandwidth using Infinity Cache. A market launch typically follows EEC filings by 3 months, so the RX 6600 series could see a late-Summer launch.

Hopefully these are a better value. The 6700xt is worthless, any additional performance gets wiped out by the MSRP increase, and thats before the scalping.

The 6700 XT with its weak mining performance can often be picked up much closer to MSRP than almost any other card right now. That combined with it being very close to a 3070 in performance with more VRAM arguably makes it the best card to grab as they are usually in stock more, and can be had closer to MSRP sometimes.

Maybe for US. I haven't seen a card reaching MSRP from either AMD or NVIDIA in Europe. All prices are double the MSRP and not all have the luxury to order directly from AMD site.

TSMC won't have time for these gpu's... I'm guessing higher end gpu's and consoles have priority on the factory floor. Would be nice if we could see a TSMC production time allotment layout though... I'm sure TSMC already has all their slots bought and paid for for like year a out... would be nice to see which factories and companies get which slots and for what product... TSMC probably doesn't disclose this information though I am guessing... @TheLostSwede

Why wouldn't they have time for it? It's all automated instead of using a wafer full of RX6700 they can make a wafer with RX6600 chip's that are smaller die size so you get more chips in total per wafer along with better yields. AMD is doing exactly what it should here. This is great to see they have needed more SKU's to better compete with Nvidia's onslaught of like 50 SKU's a GPU generation (exaggeration), but they do tend to have a lot more GPU SKU's generally speaking. AMD hasn't had the R&D luxury to make a overabundance of cut down GPU sku's in past years, but are now at a stage where they can really start to do so and better compete by offering more options at different price and performance points.

I also still firmly believe the industry has had too high a focus on the high end low yield side of things rather than better emphasis at raising the standard for everyone as opposed to the most wealthy to preemptively. I get that they want to make a better profit, but it's bad for society and combined with the mining situation worse for the environment as well arguably in turn.

Sadly true and it also effects people's perception about the company at least i noticed mine did in a negative way.. Their graphics cards became more and more expensive year after year, while did seems to forget about to increase perfomance in lower categories. The 5500XT barely any faster than the 4.5 years old RX480/580 while it's just a bit cheaper. It would be nice to get a card with an 5600 XT / RTX 2060 / 5700 level performance with 8 GB vram for 1080p gaming for 200-250€ though i don't see that happening as how AMD behaves lately with their pricing.

Not true in Europe thats for sure. 6700XT is more expensive than 3070 most places I look. I would pick a 3070 any day over 6700XT myself, it's faster in pretty much every game and has option for DLSS and better Ray Tracing + way more features in general (Reflex especially is good for people that like shooters). 6700XT should have been priced at 3060 Ti level IMO. It falls in between 3060 Ti and 3070 but it is priced almost on 3070 level. The VRAM won't make a difference because it's a 1440p card and 8GB is plenty here. 3070 still wins at 4K/UHD in 99% of games tho and DLSS is a lifesaver for 4K/UHD gaming on 400-500 dollar GPUs.

If you plan on using the card for 5 years at 1440p, then 12GB might become relevant, but the GPU will be too weak to max games out anyway, even in 2 years .. aaaaand you need to drop settings anyway, to get playable fps meaning VRAM requirement/usage drops too, so it's pretty pointless. Just like 12GB is absolutely useless on a 3060.

If 6700XT were easy to buy, Steam HW Survey would have them listed, but none of the Radeon 6000 GPUs are represented here. All Ampere cards are listed and have been for months and months.

GPU mining is not the sole reason why GPU marked is wack. Demand is high + Lack of components. Mining only plays a small part of all this.

Between the 2, the RTX 3070 is definetely better in terms of performance and features and I would gladly get it if there is a 10% difference in price. However like some mentioned, I think the availability is poor and scalpers are asking for as much as 50% more than the RX 6700 XT that could be found at sane prices in some stores. I am not a fan of the RX 6700 XT because I feel AMD cut way too much from NAVI 22 as compared to NAVI 21 used on the RX 6900/6800 series. Its a similar problem with Nvidia's RTX 3060 that lost too much of everything that made the performance not that attractive, especially when one is already rocking a RTX 2060 Super or better card.

Demand is high because, (1) scalpers are soaking up a lot of cards for profit, (2) gamers looking to upgrade are still looking for a card to buy without overpaying, and (3) miners also join the race. I don't agree that miners play a small part in the demand. If that is the case, Nvidia will not be bothered with creating another product stake just for miners. Recall in the previous mining craze, any mining worthy cards are all snapped up by miners. Where 1 gamer usually needs 1 or 2 GPUs, 1 miner (even a small time one) may easily have more than 2 GPUs. The last I spoke to a miner, he had 6 RTX 3080 running and he is still looking for more.
