Graphics Card Prices in Germany Fall to the Lowest Point Since February

The German media outlet, 3D Center, has today published an updated report for July, measuring graphics card pricing in Germany and Austria, showing some pretty interesting results. The report is only measuring the pricing index of these two countries and their retailers, so it does not apply to other regions. An interesting discovery is that GPU prices have now hit the lowest point since February of this year when the sharp price incline started. At the time of reporting, GPU prices are exaggerated by around 53% over the MSRP listed prices. Not only did the prices drop, but the supply of GPUs like AMD Radeon RX 6800, Radeon RX 6800 XT, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti became much better, as consumers can get their hands on these now.

When looking at the graph below, note that MSRP is listed as 100%, and the percentage shown is the increase over that MSRP. When it comes to complete price reduction to the MSRP, 3D Center expects it to happen in 3-4 weeks possibly. If current data is to be believed, MSRP is slowly decreasing and supply is increasing rapidly. For more details and per-card pricing situation, head over to 3D Center website here. Here is an important statement from 3D Center about the current situation:
3D Center (translated from German) said:
Of course, this means that current street prices for graphics cards are (mostly) still exaggerated - and above all that this is the worst possible time to buy a graphics card. Because the (now clearly verifiable) tendency points to clearly lower graphics card prices in the next few weeks, with a similar pace, street prices at list price level could be in sight in 3-4 weeks. It is possible that there will be a certain braking effect in the downward price movement beforehand - but at least the way up to that point should definitely be taken with you. Apparently the delivery quantities are currently sufficient, maybe the need is a bit lower because of the summer times (and no longer available on the part of the crypto miners)so that retailers receive more cards than they sell. Since the retailers usually bought their cards from the distributors at an exaggerated price, the big game is now about who can get rid of the expensive stock goods in time to make a profit at all in the face of constantly falling sales prices.

The market is finally moving in the right direction! Let's just hope that another mining boom doesn't happen for another few years.

Retailers who have paid well above MSRP from distributors and manufacturers will ensure the prices stay inflated until they can get rid of that stock.

Then no one will buy their overpriced stock. Fine by me.

Well right now you can get most next gen card in stock if you are willing to pay for what they ask. Still way overpriced, but if they continue to be in stock, i suspect they will drop in price at some point

Mining profitability is greatly reduced since last crash so expect also more GPU on the second hand market.

it should still take few months before it's back to normal.

That's true, there are some cards like 3080 Ti that are not that far from MSRP at this point. In my country MSRP for 3080 Ti is 5600 and there are already cards in actual stock that are like 7100. If these were high-end models it would even be fine, but these are entry ones and high-end are 9000+.

Too little too late anyway, but improvement is visible across the board.

umm, their stock sells out so fast that won't be a worry at all. This price dip was easy to forecast for a few weeks now

There is a big backlog of orders and most retailers would have been made to pay in advance.

While this is true eventually they'll have to dump their stock. We just have to wait them out.

MSRP concept doesn't exists anymore as long as there will be miners. It will be something like Current Miner Buying Point.
MSRP had no meaning in the past since you have a low one for high perf and a doubled one for 4% perf gain. It was a non-sense, just a point of view from previous Gen. Then it stayed a non-sense, but you had to see with miners eyes, and I don't think it's going to change.

Even if crypto are real, safe, ecological, etc., human isn't. Human is a selfish and non-logical beings (for most of them), which ruins the whole idea.
Cryptocurrency is a unicorn. Banks are stupid stallion, but they exists.

Whatever, I'm tired of this cryptoshit

Careful what you are buying at these days. Prices did also drop a lot where i live, but guess what? Check Alibaba retailers for GPUs and you will see what is happening right now. I wouldn't buy any GPU now even if it is at MSRP.

well crypto is one thing, but the main reason was because so much people got more money or more time and thought well now that I am home. New gen of graphic card that is way faster plus many new demanding game. That boosted the demands by a LOT! Then a lot of people got more money by spending less on trip, comute, work expense and got relief money had money to invest in crypto.

Add that to the shipping problem the world is having right now and the shortage of container and you have the perfect storm. Also add the fact that air travel was shutdown so no more space in plane to ship these goods.

luckily, the world is going to be back to normal. Crypto boom is behind us for some time until people forgot how much they lost last time lol !

The thing that worry me the most is the lack of next gen low-mid range card like 6500, 6400 or lower or 3050 and 3040.

I'm glad the cryptocurrency boom is fading.

Problem is, Asus and other companies like them have already their built-in excuse of Trump/Biden tariffs and their normal pricing of cards remains, for example with the 3080, way above the MSRP. As long as they keep milking their customers, I'll keep waiting for the return to even remotely common sense..

the truth is as long as 1k+ graphic card sell like hot cake, they will make 1K+ graphics cards

They can't even make enough to satisfy the demand. That is the reason why there is no more lower-mid graphic card... the new 1060 is a 600$+ graphic card in the 3060
