Well they can offer a partial driver support, only adding control panel features, without driver tweaks and they still support GCN cards like RX 480 and 7970 with early GCN shouldn't be all that different.

While generally old drivers may work, in some games there could be unexpectedly low performance due to some driver tweaks needed or some other major graphical glitching. You never know. And since those cards are still GCN, maybe even fixes for RX 480 can be applied to 7970 without any issues. I would understand if AMD discontinued aging product with totally different architecture (like Terrascale 2), but GCN?

It doesn't seem to go well, if you want petition to actually work, perhaps post it on r/AyyMD.
Partial driver support?! .

That's what you're already looking at, you can use the old drivers until the card blows up, as for adding even menu features, for what the slim minority still using older gen card's have needed a new GPU since Polaris came out never mind Rdna2 or hopper etc why.

Efficiency, and features.

Applying fixes across to old cards, you realise most driver Fixed for a game just disable appropriate features that don't work well with that application?!, YOU the owner of said older card can still do some work to make new games work better?!.

Time moves on, my Vega64 is next for the chop, you won't see Lilly ass crying butthurt bullshit from me, I would have already moved on except for the shortage.

Because beyond 3-5 years shit moves on so much your doing yourself a disservice holding on to old shite.

It's so funny reading this. AMD and nVidia have got you by the balls already. And you are one of those loyal customers that deal with all their shit and get ripped off. Vega 64 is still perfectly adequate card and beyond performance improvements, there's nothing really worthy in new cards other than AMD or nVidia saying so. Vega 64 can still run games at 1440p high-ultra at 60 fps. I really wonder what is that "new" tech that makes all the difference.

Err, the power and efficiency to run 4k. 60/120Hz for a start.
Less in the room heat generation.
Lower electricity bills.
Less noise from cooling.
Raytracing support
Dlss 2.2 ,2, FSR
Raycast audio
Hdmi2.0

No did I buy a 2080, Radeon vIi, 3080, rDNA 1 or 2, no.

I choose where and when I spend ,and did I say the Vega 64 would get binned, no, but it's far from top tier, or capable of what I want to do.
It'll live on believe.

Nah it's great :D those are shill charts:),jk.

Seriously we all want hardware to progress, massive FPS and Hz and effects yet at the same time, some want it to work without issue on ten year old crap?!.

I mean wtaf, how is both possible, who's new physics is allowing this.

I don't see that anyone denying that newer top of the line cards are faster and better but many of gamers simply can't afford those GPU's these days or maybe some of them can but they don't want as they are perfectly fine to play their games on 1080p or 1440p 60 FPS/60Hz monitors and don't care as much for ray tracing or some other new tech.....

And yet it still runs all games at 1440p high-ultra and gets 60 fps. And there's a saying "there will always be something better". I fail to see how Vega 64 is being close to obsolete and for that matter why it's even worth upgrading from it.

Err, the power and efficiency to run 4k. 60/120Hz for a start.
Less in the room heat generation.
Lower electricity bills.
Less noise from cooling.
And you bought Vega 64, which was known to be awful at power usage and efficiency. Those things clearly don't matter to you. That's like driving V8 muscle car from 1970s and saying that mpgs matter to you.

Raytracing support
I guess that's fair enough

Dlss 2.2 ,2, FSR
FSR works on Vega 64 too and it's better than DLSS.

Raycast audio
Ain't this something that AMD advertised in R9 290X launch?

Vega 64 already has HDMI 2.0b

I could go on, and by have me by the balls?!.
No did I buy a 2080, Radeon vIi, 3080, rDNA 1 or 2, no.
Yes they do, because you buy pretty much every expensive toy they drop. Minus graphics card shortage, you are like the best customer that they can possibly have. You buy highest end cards of every generation and none of those cards were known to be a good value cards or particularly great cards (Radeon 7 or RDNA 1 always broken cards). Value for money and hardware longevity are alien terms to you. If there wasn't a gpu shortage and your RTX 2080 kicked the bucked, you wouldn't give a damn and just buy RTX 3080.

I choose where and when I spend ,and did I say the Vega 64 would get binned, no, but it's far from top tier, or capable of what I want to do.
It'll live on believe.
Perhaps. As 1080p card only it has a ton of life left, but if AMD will keep being disks, then no Vega won't last long. And lately it seems that AMD is much more eager to screw their customers or outright lie to them.

I gave you a list, see my system, a 4k monitors listed, I didn't buy it to game at 1440p and I don't, so, there's that.
It's a good card , I have Totally earned its worth then smashed work units out for F@H for age's (years), it's done more than most by far, very far, and I will happily keep it forever and use it until it's useless.

Oh and some of that's nonsense hdmi 2.0?!.
I provided proof I don't buy every new toy so,

You don't think I have a 4k telly, you stick to doing you pal.

Your clearly confused, you think you know some stuff about me, you clearly don't I've had this Vega since day one, I get my worth.

And I built fifteen PC's this year already, with GPUS, some, my old ones, and none for anything but their real value Rx 580 ÂŁ80.
It had done years of true abuse too ,serviced adequately though.
You don't think I Could upgrade?!.
I refuse to ATM.

I'm not against a lot of watts used effectively,

Your buying history says otherwise.

You don't think I have a 4k telly, you stick to doing you pal.
I never said anything about 4k and TVs. But it's 2021 and Windows 10 scaling to 4k and higher is still a sad joke.

Your clearly confused, you think you know some stuff about me, you clearly don't I've had this Vega since day one, I get my worth.
And? It doesn't matter when you get it, I never said anything about that, all I'm saying is that it's still a very capable card that pretty much can do anything. As an answer to you saying that Vegas will be binned next. If anything it's going to be Polaris, as Vegas are newer and some new APUs still use Vega iGPUs.

And I built fifteen PC's this year already, with GPUS, some, my old ones, and none for anything but their real value Rx 580 ÂŁ80.

Of course you can, but if you have Vega 64 or RTX 2080, it's pointless. And RX 580 might be worth not much in terms of money, but it's like HD 4870, it will last basically forever. It will take many years until RX 580 becomes useless due to being too slow to run games. I use one with modified BIOS (which lowers TDP and raises temperature target) and I can run stuff at 1440p medium-high perfectly fine. And due to its massive VRAM buffer, it will outlive GTX 1060 and maybe even GTX 1660.

Thanks for the heads up, i tried to post on /r/AyyMD but couldn't as my account is brand new and moderators require some time as user to avoid bots i guess, i'll try in a couple of days, hope that the news and reasons doesn't lose momentum. As far as the technical line it is, being on the same ISA (i'm talking about Tonga, Fiji, Polaris) should mean a shared branch on GPU drivers on high level code, but i understand that the devil is in the details, Tonga and Fiji were not UEFI compliant at start, Fiji fiddling and tweaking from Radeon software has vanished a long ago (which to me is a non issue at this stage), yet i have the feeling that there is a lot to gain from FSR on this old wide GCN GPUs (including even Hawaii/Grenada if technically feasible, as they are a bit older being GFX7 ISA but still DX12 feature level), as most of the time some of the CUs are doing nothing due to a sometimes weak frontend.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but dropping support doesn't mean that the drivers will no longer have active developement? All newer driver should/will have a legacy version of the last supporting driver in the package.

You max get a newer version of the software-suit though.

No dropping support means exactly that AMD will no longer driver-support those GPU's anymore legacy drivers are just old drivers and that's it.....
You will be able to download and use drivers up to the 21.5.2 version....You can try by yourself now and download this latest 21.6.1 driver and you will read the message that your GPU is no longer supported by AMD...Bye-Bye

I've got both an r9 290 and a 7970, and probably will into next year with how crazy the gpu pricing and availability situation is.
Should have jumped on some deals last summer, but I thought the new series were right around the corner and held off buying.

I'm surprised how well they still game, but they are absolute power hogs for the performance they provide.
GCN 1.0+ had a good run, not sure why some people are imploding about cards going into legacy support long after their warranties are done.

Calm down bitchfaces, and download a modded driver, wasn't hard to get it going on my 8970m
so much bitching over not having a 10 year old architecture supported anymore.

All you Nvidia shills calm down, nvidia ditched support for the 880m in 2020. that was a pretty powerful 8gb laptop card that got outperformed by a 7970m for about a year due to lack of driver updates for it.

This topic is a pretty good example of the anti-nVidia bias on this site. When nVidia announced the end to kepler support, the news headline here said "after 9 years" when the fact is nVidia is dropping support after 12 years with 3 years of notice. Now AMD suddenly drops support with no warning just 6 years after the cards came out, and the news headline claims "10 years".

Dropping Fury already? Cant say I am surprised. Worst $650 i ever spent on a GPU for the FuryX. Tons of software bugs, lackluster performance, pump died out of warranty. And now early forced retirement by AMD. I dont feel like giving them money for GPUs any time soon.
i mean wow you spent tons of money on a high end gpu rather then 2 mid ranged ones years away... and your mad you spend 250 dollars more then the ps4 xbox one for a single part of a computer... those have motherboards power supplys cpu case controller why "already" if your going for a high teir item but plan on keeping it past 6... years why... just get 2 meduim cards 2-4years apart for the same price

tech has always been the top teir is not cost efficent...its for ppl with money with trade up 1-3 years later... not 6... ever go hight to mid ranged if your not going to replace a card in 4 or less years... i have never heard of somone paying tons of money for the best of the best to still use it 6 years later..... ever... to cry about his lack of knowlage...

Well If you think this is a good move by AMD it's OK then......Don't be surprised if they stop driver support for yours 6900XT in a few years......Me personally see that this move as nothing but BAD for US as consumers and after this I am sure that I am done with the AMD GPU's..........
YOU SHOULB BE who buys a high high high end card to cry or still use it 6 + years later? your using like 5 gen later gpu that vs the new 3-5 nm is 80% more power per cost... its good amd is droping old tech... are u crying about the lack of rotary phones? i bet you use adult dipers.. to overspend... then cry about money and support... wtf if u have seen s xbox s s vs the 50% ish more powerful series s its smaller and more powerful with 0 power brick are u still in school?

Pretty much every site is anti Nvidia/Intel and pro AMD nowadays. AMD has a unbelievably crazy fan base and every site should pander to them or else they will get bullied.
