SecretLab Announces New TITAN Evo (2022 Series) Ergonomic Chairs

Secretlab is quite possibly the most famous of the ergonomic/gaming chair brands today, with many a content creator finding themselves sitting on a 2020 Series Omega or Titan. The 2018 series had left us quite impressed, and we were invited to the launch of the then-new 2020 series in New York City a little over two years ago in May 2019. That seems like an eternity has passed since, and such is the nature of the world today that a similar launch event would just not be prudent or practical. As such, Secretlab took to the traditional online route to announce its latest and greatest—the TITAN Evo 2022 series.


I have seen first hand how many people bought the Titan to only realize it was too big, just because they saw the Secretlab branding and the T on other chairs without realizing the Secretlab Omega was better suited for them. On the flip side, the Titan XL should have been what taller people would have needed more, but the Titan just became synonymous with the brand to where Secretlab has acknowledged this with the the new TITAN Evo 2022 series that comes in three different sizes (S, R, XL) while keeping the same feature set. The small TITAN Evo is rated best for people with height between 150-169 cm and weighing under 90 Kg, the regular TITAN Evo for heights between 170-189 cm and weight under 100 Kg, and finally the TITAN Evo XL is best for people measuring in at 181-205 cm and 80-180 Kg. The S and R sizes also get shorter hydraulics and an optimized seat base to allow users to comfortably rest feet flat on the ground. The so-called Secretlab PRIME 2.0 PU leather was one of the biggest updates with the 2020 series, with a new-generation leather-replacement that was borne out of a collaboration with Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). That is old news already, with the 2022 series now coming with NEO hybrid leatherette that the company says uses a resin top layer to help recreate the look and feeling of premium napa leather, but that remains to be seen in person. The polyurathane (PU) base layer is strengthened with a 3D structure of ultra-fine fibers for added strength while increasing flex/abrasion resistance to be 12x more durable compared to PU leather, but again keep in mind these are words directly from the manufacturer. The SoftWeave fabric fans also get some love with the new SoftWave Plus that uses interlacing loops of high-strength yarn fibers for micro-details and unique looks courtesy the potential for multi-layered fabric weaves now.It is rated to be 3.5x stronger than its predecessor and has better seam strength which all contributes to making this—in Secretlab's words—"softer, more breathable, and even more durable than before".


Here are some of the new colors coming out courtesy the customized leatherette and fabric designs. Secretlab NEO hybrid leatherette (from left) is available in Ash, BLACK, Classic, Royal and Stealth, whereas the Secretlab SoftWeave Plus fabric (from left) is available in Plush Pink, Mint Green, Frost Blue, Cookies & Cream, BLACK and Arctic White.


You may have noticed there has been no mention of the OMEGA lineup yet, and news of the OMEGA seat base design incorporated into the new TITAN Evo has made me wonder if the Titan Evo in the three sizes and different material options/colors will be the way forward for the brand. I asked Secretlab about this, and this is indeed the case. The OMEGA lineup will be retired when it sells out, with TITAN Evo taking over for a simpler naming scheme. The new pebble seat base is designed to help guide your body naturally towards the middle of the chair, with a light recline to position feet more naturally underneath and ample room on the sides to have feet stretch in either direction as well. It still uses the cold-cure foam that was introduced with the 2020 series. The TITAN chairs always had built-in lumbar support with a two-way adjustment, which now gets upgraded to 4-way adjustment in the 2022 series. Allowing both up/down as well as left/right movement, there is an interlocking hinge system which should better conform to the curvature of your particular spine now.


In addition to the ergonomic updates that first came out with the 2020 series and the ones seen above that are new to the 2022 series, Secretlab has a new lumbar pillow which now works together with the 4-way L-adapt lumbar system, further hinting towards the OMEGA series being made EOL since that used the pillow to compensate for the lack of the integrated lumbar system. This is a foam pillow with a cooling gel layer for heat transfer, and the trend continues with a new foam head pillow that is now magnetic and installs without the need for cumbersome straps. The shape has also been revised to better fit a larger variety of adjustments and sizes of necks now. The full-metal 4D armrests also get an update with what Secretlab calls the CloudSwap replacement system, using magnets again to quickly swap out the armrest material while also tweaking the internals for increased smoothness and less play. The first of the replacement material options comes in the form of the Secretlab Technogel premium armrest top, which features custom German-made gel that claims to supports weight more effectively and cool to the touch as well. More materials are planned and currently in development.

The Secretlab TITAN Evo (2022 series) of chairs should release imminently in three sizes and the various material/color options discussed above. Pricing is not disclosed yet, but expected to be in-line with the equivalent 2020 series models. [Update: pricing for USA and UK are seen below]

Have you actually used one? This is the only such chair of its kind that I can vouch for personally. Certainly not garbage, and there are decent ergonomic tweaks here if I say so myself.

Too damned expensive though. Having had one at a previous job, I can agree that it's nice, but it's not a one size fits all chair for one and for me personally it's neither quite high enough in terms of seat height, nor does it have a tall enough back.
The picture I posted have both of those for me, it's made by some company in Taiwan that doesn't even have a website, go figure...
That said, the materials are obviously not as nice as the Herman Miller chairs and the mesh doesn't feel nearly as good.
It's less than half the price of an Aeron 2.0 here though, but it's still not a cheap chair by any means.

I don't have to use one; I know what ergonomic chair is and what its supposed to do. These gaming chairs are not ergonomic and do the opposite of what you want an ergonomic desk chair is to do. These gaming chairs are cheap knockoffs of racing seats designed to support and hold your body when its subjected to lateral g and braking force.

If gamers want to fool themselves into thinking they need an aggressive looking chair because gaming is somehow subjecting them to physically stressful forces then whatever I guess but if you spend any significant time at desk with a keyboard and mouse this is not the type of chair you want.

I don't need to make assumptions, I have eyes and I can see the shape of the head and shoulder supports so yeah I can make generalizations about how they are going to affect your posture.

At some point I was also considering a 'gaming' chair but then I ditched the idea cause the only one I found to my liking went out of stock in my country.
Also wasn't a fan of the price of it.

Since last year I'm using a chair like this one:



Its a sub 100$ chair even brand new and I actually got mine for free.
An office room was being 'upgraded' at my father's workplace and they wanted to throw it out but instead my father brought it home and gave it to me.
Its in a good condition just had to do some small repairs and now its good as new.

Works perfectly for me, no back pains or any discomfort even when I sit infront of the PC for hours.

If it completely breaks for whatever reason I will just get something like this again, no reason for me to throw a small fortune on a chair.

It's difficult to make a product like this that would be suitable for everyone. People who are quite tall or short to say nothing of the left handed often get the short end of the stick.

Overall though the Herman Miller Aeron is the chair of choice for me and is physically suitable for a large part of the population. Fair point about the price though. I was able to source a total of four to date for personal use. These were surplus chairs that looked new and the cost was lower then the typical new SecretLab gaming chair IIRC (under ~$400 USD).

People can do better then these gaming chairs but people have to believe that they can do better before they actually attempt to do so.

My biggest concern with it would be that its obviously cheaply made, and as is typical, you get what you pay for. I wonder where the parts are manufactured?
If I want ergonomic & comfort, I would go with a Steelcase; especially if its going to be a chair that I'm going to be sitting in for hours at a time. Sure you're going to pay a lot more, but they outlast these gaming chairs by a longshot and have been tried and tested in the workplace.

That's kinda what I mean, I have a Steelcase Leap here and used to have an Omega 2020 series that used just as much before moving across oceans and having to downsize drastically. I kept the Leap over the Secretlab Omega, but also I had paid 2.5x as much for the Steelcase while I would have happily continued to use the Omega if that was my only chair. There are plenty of dumb chairs out there, and some of them are made by brands I otherwise like too, but this is not just "one of those".

Yeah, they go for something north of $5,000 and given how the chair is designed, I wouldn't get it without the ottoman. Good for gaming & just relaxing in, but not ideal for sitting at a desk & doing work.

True ergo chairs unfortunately are not cheaper, but even while SecretLab are expensive, real ergo chairs are actually even more expensive.

Which makes SL rather okay choice. At least they seem rather solid material wise.

I've never found any of these chairs to be particularly comfortable. More often than not, they end up hurting after a hour or so. Usually my butt goes completely numb or my back starts screaming at me, which forces me to get up anyway. Even with the pricier ones. Oddly enough, the most comfy "gaming" chair I have is the cheap sub-200 dollar car "Racing" seat I found on eBay and put in my simpit. And by "racing" they mean it has slightly larger side bolsters, but is otherwise a regular seat you'd find in an a low specced sports car. I can sit in that thing for hours on end without it bothering me. That's why I pretty much gave up on "gaming" chairs.

In terms of design this is "one of those". Gaming chairs are designed to meet visual expectations of marketing departments not proper ergonomics. It may not be the worst offending example out there and it may be made of better materials but it meets all nonsense design criteria gaming chairs and there is no mechanical reason behind any of it, its all marketing garbage.

I have a 2020 TITAN in softweave (I always avoid fake leather, it shits the bed eventually, it's just a matter of time), an excellent chair for me at 186cm tall and ~80kg. And yeah, it is ergonomic, far more than a lot of other off brand chairs on the market, far more than some outright pieces of trash, and about 10x more than the racing bucket seat on wheels I had, in fact all of my back issues disappeared after the switch. Great lumbar support, neck and head support, and armrest adjustability is top-notch, as is other adjustability really. Plus being generally much more suited to my size and frame.

Are there more ergonomic chairs out there? yes, absolutely, some by a good margin. Does it make this chair garbage, outright non-ergonomic whatsoever and not worth the asking price? Not even slightly, this will be a 10+ year chair the way it's going.

Ah, yes, I was wondering when this thread would devolve into yet another "gaming chairs bad!" argument

I have one of the OMEGA 2020 chairs and have yet to regret buying it in the least. It works for me and I'm happy with it. That said, having read the article, I'm sorry to see that the OMEGA line will be EOL now that the TITAN comes in 3 sizes -- it didn't when I bought my OMEGA, and I'm a rather short 5'3" (a woman never discloses her weight!), so I went with the OMEGA. I really like how the Titan includes built in lumbar support, though I won't like the pillows that came with my chair are AMAZING

I got the upgraded 5 year warranty for mine, maybe they'll upgrade me, free of charge? LOL
