ASUS TUF Gaming Introduces the VG32AQL1A Monitor: 32" Fast IPS, QHD, 170 Hz, DisplayHDR 400

ASUS today via its TUF Gaming brand introduced the VG32AQL1A monitor, which is sure to tick a lot of boxes for many people looking for a gaming monitor. The 32" diagonal may put some off due to the typical distance users sit away from the monitor. The 2560 x 1440 Fast IPS panel features a 1 ms response time and 170 Hz refresh rate - as well as support for FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA's G-Sync Compatible program. In addition to the fast response time and refresh rates, the ASUS TUF Gaming VG32AQL1A also features ELMB sync (for black frame insertion and motion blur reduction) as well as a smart, "variable overdrive" setting that dynamically changes monitor overdrive values according to the current frame rate so as to further reduce motion blur.

Typical brightness is set at a standard 300 cd/m², with peak brightness achieving the 400 cd/m² that enables this monitor to boast of VESA's Display HDR 400 certification. Contrast ratio is 1,000:1, and color coverage stands at 99% of the DCI-P3 standard. I/O is ensured by 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 2x HDMI 2.0, 2x USB 3.0, 1x earphone jack, and 2x 2 W stereo speakers. Usability is improved by the stand's support for -5 to 20 ° tilt, -10 to 10 ° swivel, and 0 to 90 mm height adjustments. No pricing information was available at time of writing.

its such an eternal value, as is that 1ms response time, we have seen these same stats for monitors for like 10 years now......

also " A 48 – 165Hz VRR range plus LFC is offered", I never understand this, why does this tech only go so low? why not go to the actual realm of unplayable plus a bit extra, I would say all Freesync/Gsync displays should start at 20hz to whatever the max refreshrate is.
To not have it at anything below 48 is just rediculous imo, ATLEAST start at 30hz....

It can kinda go lower than 48fps, it just doubles the frames. On freesync it's called LFC (Low Frame Compensation), no clue if NVIDIA has a name for it, but they do it as well.

The size is alright... But the contrast value for an IPS at such amount really stems in the past. In reality calibrated contrast will linger in 800-900ies. Best performers should be in around 1200 after calibration.

I wouldnt worry, cause backlight bleed will be main issue. As basically every single "gaming" LCD I tested so far.

I like how Nvidia and AMD 5 years ago was pushing 4k this and 4k that and now they are pushing 1440P. It sucks because I went 4k this and 4k that then got screwed by them because they lost interest.

The bigger question with this screen is, can you right now even buy a video card that will do 170Hz at 1440p?
I'm on LG 32GK850F at the moment, next time I change screens will be when good IGZO or microLED become affordable.

Besides how fast and smooth a monitor looks has many things to consider, i recommend taking a look at the 'updated testing' of hardware unboxed channel (which in turn took pointers from a5hun channel's video).

OLED has achieve that level of response time for a while now, just that gamers are still being milked with expensive LCD panels.

Yet another awful monitor with terrible specs we have all seen cloned a thousand times before, offered year after year after year. HDR on this is a joke, crap contrast ratio, too big for its resolution, HDMI 2.0…

PC monitors are just awful overpriced garbage, for the most part. A mid range 4K HDTV is far better specs and price wise In many cases. I look forward to when/if LG release a smaller OLED, and finally puts an end to the $1500+ PC monitor with 10 year old specs gravy train. A 42” OLED could be a very nice monitor, as the 48” is just too big.

Someone please bring out a 4K 32” 120hz+ with wide colour, HDR 800+ the same as the HDTV market uses, and a decent contrast ratio for less than $1000 please.
