Puget Systems is a company that specializes in workstations and servers that are popular with the scientific community. The company just revealed that a majority of its systems shipped are now powered by AMD processors. These include Ryzen desktop or Ryzen Threadripper HEDT/workstation processors. "AMD has made enormous improvements to its CPU line year over year. In fact, more than 50% of our recommended systems are powered by AMD Ryzen
or Threadripper CPUs!," the company tweeted. The Ryzen Threadripper lineup has dominated the HEDT and workstation scene as all models support ECC memory, and the chips come in core counts of up to 64.

I... don't expect any reasonable system maker to use X299 platform instead of either 12-16 Ryzen CPUs on AM4 or HCC ones on sTRX4

This is AMD getting a chest bump from Puget. Puget has such a really good reputation.

I'm more surprised they even bother offering intel anymore. I mean who still buys Intel HDET systems these days?

IIRC, some random tools like "rr" (https://rr-project.org/) only work on Intel. If you have a continuous integration system (like... a programmer server: compiles, tests, etc. etc.) that uses rr inside, Intel HEDT is what you want.

I admit its an obscure case but... random things still happen like that.

I don't think anyone can be surprised by this.

You'd be surprised how many people outside this forum still think intel are the best for everything. Heck, even if intel made toasters (well, they do :D) these guys would buy them.

Surprising since just 2 years ago you couldn't even get a zen system from them.

Surprised also reducing Intel.

Offer both, cater to the people. Variety is the spice of life................or something like that.

^^That's a huge difference from Dell for example which had 150+ Intel cpu builds for laptops vs 13 for Amd.

I mean, it will probably be like this until they get competitive again on that market segment. Probably next generation they will start offering a better HEDT product if the rumors are to be believed.

It actually is, all that majority means is more than 50%.

"Recommended systems" =! "workstations [shipped]"

If I were a Best Buy salesman I'd push you towards the new iPad Pro or Alienware - that doesn't mean I successfully sold you one

have you seen GN review of an AlienwareDell PC?

I didn't say I would want to or that it would be conscientious to do so, just that it's the typical choice of your average Best Buy employee.

This is AMD getting a chest bump from Puget. Puget has such a really good reputation.
Pugetsystems desperately trying to make the news.
This is so very late, it's like they are the last people on earth acknowledging AMD has the better CPU when everyone knows it.
I read benchmarks from them and they kept strong about Intel for a long of time saying "sure AMD is better but Intel is more stable", now they suddenly see the light or customers started asking questions why they don't get the highest end stuff.

Twitter post is marketing, they're not trying to make the news. There's nothing desperate about it.

Much of the audio recording software uses also MKL.

reputation and popularity are two different things. One will get you the other but not the other way around

Really? Life has shown me that it works both ways. Reputation can earn popularity and popularity can garner reputation. Just look at Apple.
II think you missed one thing, popularity by producing shit will get you both 'poop'ularity and reputation, just not the reputation you actually wanted. In the end, we can agree the Puget has more than a good reputation with its products.
