I've actually never considered Gigabyte's power suppliers, never had any good thoughts about these re-branded products.
Then you only buy Seasonic, FSP, HEC and the likes? Everything else are what you're referring to as "re-branded products" since most of the retail brands don't manufacturer their own PSUs.

I wonder what Newegg's reasoning behind forcing this shit down people's throats that just wanted an opportunity to purchase a hard to come by GPU? The reviews people left about the these PSUs from Gigabyte were awful. Many DOA, many failing after a few hours to a few days....then with reviews making mention of how awful they can be when they fail, yet the PSUs were still pushed out.

My guess is Newegg had a shit ton of stock and Gigabyte wouldn't allow them to be returned, so Newegg just resorted to a shady tactic and bundled them with GPUs for their shuffles.

I think anyone that had to purchase one of these PSUs from Newegg, regardless if they were part of a bundle or not, Newegg should be allowing a return of the PSU for a full refund and paying the cost of shipping. Let Newegg take it in the shorts.

Great points, Newegg deserves criticism for sure. I'm guessing they will be included in any class action lawsuit.

MEIC is the OEM for these PSUs.

Might wanna put them on your do-not-buy list.

I've had good luck with units OEM'd by HEC and Super Flower (EVGA uses them).

Nah, Silverstone doesn't make their own PSUs.
Their office is at least in a nicer building than Cooler Master...

with all due respect to those who bought one of these units.....

I personally would compare buying a Gigabyte PSU and wondering why it failed to buying Gas Station sushi in Texas and wondering why you have the shits ala Montezuma's revenge style 3 hours later....

must admit, I'm happy with my Z390 board from Gigabyte I have. But I would never, ever, consider buying a PSU from a company that wasn't getting excellent reviews and preferably should be a focal point of their business. Gigabyte gave me the impression they are cheap rebrands so they can include them in their prebuilts because ya know gotta have matching color schemes when selling those types of prebuilts.

This is more like appendicitis, where your system will probably die if you don't remove it.

Not me.. coming from Gigabyte you would think it would be a world class product from a world class company. This is quite apparent they don't give a shit about you or your feelings, they just care about your bank account.

Re-branded units can be fine, depending on what was re-branded. I'd say basically 90% of PSUs you see on the market are actually re-brands, as there's not a lot of actual manufacturers. Seasonic, FSP, Flextronics, Superflower, CWT (Channel Well), Delta, and Great Wall are the OEMs I know of and covers a large chunk of the units sold under other big brand names. I think Silverstone makes their own PSUs too, but they're not an OEM for other brands AFAIK.

Just to add a few more to that list.

HEC, Andyson, Sirtec, Enhance Electronics

Lesser known/Less Popular:

AcBel Polytech, Seventeam, ATNG, Solytec, Golden Tiger Electronic Tech, Topower, Power Giga, Yue-Lin Electrical Technology, ShenZhen UTPower Technology, Delta Electronics

There are probably a few more but i cba to dig.

Driven past AcBel a few times. They're out in the "sticks" by Taiwan standards.

Having dealth with Gigabyte's customer support and RMA process, this is not surprising to me. Heck, chances are people that send in their units will be told the units were damaged by the user and the warranty voided, that's Gigabyte's MO.

How long before they're hit with a class action lawsuit in the States? They're surely going The Walking Dead (or brain dead) route with their unfathomable actions!
Why wait for a class action when people can take action and boycott their products? The message is a lot more powerful not just to Gigabyte but also to other manufacturers.

sorry, you may have gotten sucked in by their marketing! not once have I read a "best 5 PSUs for this year" type of article and ever seen Gigabyte in that list for example. Groups like Seasonic, EVGA, and Corsair would be my impression of quality when it comes to PSUs.

I too would consider Gigabyte a well known and trusted world class brand. and I'm happy with the few purchases of their gear I have made. but I wouldn't trust them with my PSU option....and before this news broke months ago I would have said not because they have a bad reputation in PSUs (now I would say that though lol), but because they don't have a well known good reputation in PSUs. It was just a "meh" reputation up to this disaster, and since a PSU is the literal heartbeat of your PC system wouldn't trust it with anything short of quality so I have never ever even considered buying a Gigabyte PSU based on those perceptions of mine. to be clear I mean quality as safe and long lasting reliable operation whether it is a tiny 350W PSU or a massive 1600W PSU

lol yea I'd say these PSU's def need surgery ie get them out of your cases before they ruin your PC or set your house on fire!

I have quite a few gigabyte products, never again though. This is the straw that broke the camels back. I was already very lose to writing them off after having a horrible experience trying to get support with a Aorus 6800xt. Luckily I was able to solve the problem with the card myself but I still have an unanswered RMA ticket dating back to Jan 15th 2021.
After 2 decades or more buying their motherboards, I am putting them on my blacklist after this incident. It just shows that they don't care about their consumers. It is not just about a bad product, but at the minimal, it explodes and kill itself, but at worst, it can be a fire hazard. Things like this should not be treated lightly like how they are handling, or rather, mishandling the issue and resolution. To make matters worst, they are still doubling down/forcing people to buy this fire hazard of a PSU so that they can get a GPU, when they know and ignored the problem. Whatever they do to resolve this issue at this point is not going to change my perspective of them, nor make me buy a Gigabyte product.

Many buyers didn't have a choice though, they HAD to buy this PSU in order to get the GPU they needed/wanted. Newegg has to take some responsibility here considering the negative reviews/returns they must have seen.

Regardless of Gigabyte's rep as a maker of PSUs, we should at least expect an a safe product, which this is not. After watching GN's latest video, its really appalling that they haven't issued a full recall yet.

Why do they never learn that battery and power supply fires is about the fastest way to get customers to avoid your entire brand? When a company doesn't handle that right it's a huge bad sign. It's why Samsung recalled and canceled the entire phone model when that battery problem happened. Far far cheaper than destroying the Samsung name.

Thats a very good point. There are very few things that scare people to their core like the threat of fire.

I have a GP-AP850GM and a G750H, and both are very tough power supplies. I was almost tempted to buy one of these.
I also considered buying an AORUS P1200W, but with this action they refused me.

They bundled these PSUs with GPUs in their shuffle, essentially forcing anyone that wanted to try their hands at obtaining a hard to find GPU to buy one of these shitty PSUs. Of course people could have chose to not win a chance at a GPU + shitty Gigabyte PSU bundle. Regardless, it was an awful tactic by Newegg to take advantage of people with a faulty product.

On top of it, you are not allowed to return any single item of a bundle sale for a return. If you don't want an item from a bundle, you have to return all items in that bundle. So if someone purchased a garbage PSU in the bundle, they either have one of two choices:

1) Keep both items and live with the fact they had to spend upwards of $100 or so for a piece of shit power supply
2) Return the power supply and the GPU because you will not get a refund on your money if you don't return both items.

Newegg took advantage of people wanting a new GPU and forced it down your throat if you wished to take a chance to buy a GPU.

I don't think Newegg should be hit with a lawsuit, but they should be forced to supply a full refund for just the PSU (regardless if the PSU was sold in a bundle or not), plus shipping costs to anyone that had to buy one of these GPUs in their bundles. Doing something like this would hopefully make them second guess wanting to pull some shady tactics like this in the future.
