I'm not big into the custom water cooling world, but being EK I am going to assume a tool kit like this is meant exclusively for the hardcore water cooling people?

Who said Xiaomi designed it? Most probably both just ordered some other company to manufacture those sets with their own branding...

Actually, doesn't look bad. I've been thinking of getting something like this, and this looks okay by its bits and pricing.

Of course and I would bet Xiaomi have much better product because I would imagine they would have better market intelligence in China, I mean it's Xiaomi afterall. I have powered screwdriver and a mini vacuum cleaner from Xiaomi and they fell real high quality and for very low prices. I don't know how they do it really.

Those are not Wiha btw but counterfeit.

Asking Wiha about this product, they don't acknowledge it... so it means it is counterfeit.

Also I've seen the Xiaomi kit , the bits chop off their ends pretty fast... terrible quality.

Wiha is the OEM for Xiaomi, not so sure about EK.
I have a couple of these Xiaomi tool kit, so either EK copy and paste or it's rebranded?
I have the same kit. As you can see, I use it daily and it has battle scars and trench dirt to prove it :D :D :D
IMG_20210820_101843[1].jpgIMG_20210820_101906[1].jpg
I also have this weird label on the back:
IMG_20210820_101830[1].jpg

Wiha has more weight and reputation on hand tools market than both of these companies combined. Though, judging by shitty endcaps and cartoonish labels on EK, I'd say it's not Wiha at all. Probably one of knockoffs.

P.S. I found it.

This EK set is ~20EUR
That iFixit set is ~70EUR

Spot the difference.

The EK screwdriver is a chinese alibaba product with EKs name slapped on it. The Ifixit product is and entire electronics repair toolkit with a lifetime warranty on everything.

Spot the difference.

A bit of a backwards logic here. If you want to support right to repair, you can donate to right to repair.
Just skip an overpriced $70 kit with all the wonderful things you don't need or already have... or buy a decent $15-20 practical kit instead. Throw the rest to Louis Rossmann and his cat.
I fix electronics for living, and all these years later I still can't justify spending $70 on screwdrivers and disposables. I have Wiha in a backpack on-the-go (just to impress my clients and friends with fancy clicky case), and el-cheapo $10 chinese precision kit with two broken handles mended by epoxy and electrical tape in my workshop (just to look tough and serious when I have rare unexpected visitors). Bought that one almost 10 years ago and all bits are still like new. Also got a decent 5-piece set of ESD-safe tweezers for $10 many moons ago and I don't think I'll ever need more(I only use 1 out of 5 on a daily basis). For dirty work I use my grandpa's soviet tweezers which are unkillable and made of damage-resistant unobtanium... will be passed onto my grandchildren someday. A stainless steel spatula kit cost me less than $4. Guitar picks - $5 for a 50-pack. Plastic prying tools - free with random orders of smartphone parts, which creates a big problem of how to get rid of them.

Depending on how frequently one uses these tools, it might not be a good idea to cheap out on them; especially if you're frequently building/repairing systems. Having firsthand experience in the past with a few "made in China" tools, I avoid them like the plague. Years ago, I had the handle of a screw driver(tool made in China) literally break into bits when trying to tighten a screw, and the metal bent almost as easy as a copper wire with the same thickness...
My opinion may be a bit slanted, but from my own experience, I would rather spend a little more for stuff that isn't made in China whenever possible if it means greater dependability/durability.

Wiha is a well-known, pretty high-quality German brand https://www.wiha.com/. So I assume that the Xiaomi bits are made by Wiha, but maybe not the actual tool itself. So considering that the housing for both the Xiaomi and the EK looks the same, I would assume that the bits are Wiha too.

If you don't own a tool kit, the EK one could be a nice starter kit for people just as the Xiaomi one could be. There is a difference in the number of bits between the two (24 vs. 48 bits), which to me makes the EK a bit more attractive IMHO.

yeah but if you just simply donated, you wouldnt get sent a tool kit.

By buying from ifixit you are getting a toolkit and also supporting a company that is supporting and campaigning a good cause although it might not be a charitable one such as curing poverty etc etc.
