AMD today released the latest version of Radeon Software Adrenalin. Version 21.9.1 is feature-packed with stuff enthusiasts are bound to love. To begin with, it introduces Smart Access Memory (PCI Resizable BAR) support for AMD Radeon RX 5000 series (RDNA) graphics processors, when used with a compatible platform. Next up, it adds optimization for "Call of Duty Vanguard Open Beta," and "Deathloop." The drivers also add a handful Vulkan API extensions, including VK_KHR_zero_initialize_workgroup_memory, VK_KHR_shader_integer_dot_product, VK_EXT_shader_atomic_float2, and VK_EXT_load_store_op_none. Perhaps the biggest new feature addition is AMD Auto Overclock.

On machines with AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors and Radeon RX 6000 series graphics, the Auto-Overclock feature detects CPU load, and automatically overclocks it in increments of 50 MHz, beyond the processor's rated maximum boost frequency. Just like manual overclocking, this comes with sizable costs to power consumption and cooling. The feature also automatically overclocks your RX 6000 series GPU. Using the feature is as easy as pulling up the Tuning tab in Radeon Software, and clicking on "Auto Overclock" in the Tuning Control tab. Lastly, Adrenalin 21.9.1 adds support for the upcoming Windows 11 operating system. The software is released alongside AMD's latest 3.09.01.140 Chipset Software, which also add Windows 11 support. A handful bugs have also been fixed, as described below.

DOWNLOAD: AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.9.1 | AMD Chipset Software 3.09.01.140

Support For
  • Deathloop
  • Call of Duty Vanguard Open Beta
  • AMD Smart Access Memory on Radeon RX 5000 Series Graphics
Added Vulkan Support
  • VK_KHR_zero_initialize_workgroup_memory: This extension allows implementations to use the null constant initializer on shader workgroup memory variables. This in turn allows applications that run untrusted content to defeat memory-scraping attacks.
  • VK_KHR_shader_integer_dot_product: This extension adds support for the integer dot product SPIR-V instructions defined in SPV_KHR_integer_dot_product. The SPV_KHR_integer_dot_product extension allows dot product operations on integer vectors with optional accumulation. In addition to allowing dot product operations for all input vector types, it also allows integer dot product for 4-component vectors of 8-bit integers that are packed into 32-bit integers.
  • VK_EXT_shader_atomic_float2: This extension provides shaders with the capability to perform 16-bit floating-point atomic operations on buffer and workgroup memory. It additionally allows floating-point atomic minimum and maximum operations on buffer, workgroup, and image memory.
  • VK_EXT_load_store_op_none: This extension allows an application to specify the contents within the render area that will not modified or can be expected to be undefined after rendering.
Fixed Issues
  • Visual artifacts in PAYDAY 2 may be observed during gameplay on some AMD Graphics products such as Radeon RX 6800 XT.
  • Connecting two displays with large differences in resolution/refresh rates may cause flickering on Radeon RX Vega series graphics products.
  • On Radeon RX 5500 XT Graphics, higher than expected memory clock speed and power consumption may be experienced when idle and the display's resolution and refresh rate are set to specific values such as 1080p @ 60 Hz.
  • While playing Assassin's Creed Odyssey, driver timeouts or black screens may be experienced on some AMD Graphics products such as Radeon RX 480 Graphics when the user quickly navigates through the game menus or swiftly looks around an environment with their character.
Known Issues
  • Open Broadcaster Software may continue to run in the background after a user ends a recording session and closes the application.
  • Driver timeouts may be experienced while playing a game & streaming a video simultaneously on some AMD Graphics products such as Radeon RX 500 Series Graphics.
  • AMD Radeon Software may crash or become unresponsive while playing some DirectX 11 games such as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds with multiple displays connected in extended mode.
  • Playing Horizon Zero Dawn for an extended period may lead to a driver timeout or game crash on some AMD Graphics products such as Radeon RX 6700 XT.
  • Enhanced Sync may cause a black screen to occur when enabled on some games and system configurations. Any users who may be experiencing issues with Enhanced Sync enabled should disable it as a temporary workaround.
  • Radeon performance metrics and logging features may intermittently report extremely high and incorrect memory clock values.

Is this similar to Nvidia's auto tuning performance feature? I thought there has been an auto overlocking feature for a while in AMD drivers. Tuning -> Auto -> Select what you want to overclock.

Well I got hard resets after installing the chipset driver on my 5950x setup and the graphics driver did not help. I am not sure if the problems is due to new OC function - did some gameing af a stable run without restarts I did notice some game lag that is new to the game - so far not sure that the option is compatible wih PBO/Curve settings.

One issue more is that the zero fan setting is still active - I am not a fan of that - changeing it to a more active setting lower memory temps almost 15c compared to standard settings with it on.
1631565499874.png

With the zero fan settings I see memory temps upwards 85c and Hotspot near 100c

Not seeing any problems, but I don't have an AMD GPU, plus I only have a 3800X.

When I check inside the Radeon control panel these don't show up.

Only visible if I select recommended plus optional so they are beta drivers.

Wondering how the auto overclock feature works. Maximum clock rates seem to be similar to what my custom curve PBO provide.

They broke Int8 and Float16 Vulkan support with this release. We had a long day figuring it out and fixing it.
Thank you AMD.

Unintended consequences can be grouped into three types:
  • Unexpected benefit: A positive unexpected benefit (also referred to as luck, serendipity or a windfall).
  • Unexpected drawback: An unexpected detriment occurring in addition to the desired effect of the policy (e.g., while irrigation schemes provide people with water for agriculture, they can increase waterborne diseases that have devastating health effects, such as schistosomiasis).
  • Perverse result: A perverse effect contrary to what was originally intended (when an intended solution makes a problem worse).

It's not unintended if it is chronic.
Standards:
  1. Care.
  2. Lack of reasonable care.
  3. Recklessness.
  4. Intentional disregard.
  5. Mens rea.
Chronic:
  1. persisting for a long time or constantly recurring
  2. of a very poor quality.
Chronic can occur at any standard of care.

So, it works well if it reaches the performance of a custom PBO setting without any hassle at all, eh?

I think I'm a negative nancy this morning....but even with an auto-overclocking feature, I just kind of want to not screw around with my system and let it run nice and stable as it already does. Must be my older age that's bringing these things out in me....or maybe I'm just lazier? I mean, I really had interest (in my mind, at least) that when I moved from my 980Ti to my 3060 and eventually the 3060Ti was to bench out some games I enjoy playing to see how much things really improved in terms of performance..... Yeah, that didn't happen. Too much work swapping things around and running benchmarks (if available) or replaying sections of games just to see a comparison.

How much more or better performance gain does one think they'll get out of a few small bumps of MHz if they're already overclocking?

Maybe I don't want to waste my time, which is why I can't even be bothered to try and allow a program to auto-overclock for me. I'm just going to drink my chocolate milk here at my desk, maybe it'll make me less irritable.

I read this line with interest and was hoping that memory clock speed at idle on my 5700 XT would also be fixed, but sadly, no. It still sits at 1742mhz.
Can anyone with a 5500 XT confirm this, please?
