System Name ICE-QUAD // ICE-CRUNCH
Processor Q6600 // 2x Xeon 5472
Memory 2GB DDR // 8GB FB-DIMM
Video Card(s) HD3850-AGP // FireGL 3400
Display(s) 2 x Samsung 204Ts = 3200x1200
Audio Device(s) Audigy 2
Software Windows Server 2003 R2 as a Workstation now migrated to W10 with regrets.
"Regardless of whether or not a user has automatic updates turned off, Windows XP and Vista automatically update roughly nine files in Windows Update"

There seems to be different spins on the story. From what I've read elsewhere it works as follows:

1./ If automatic updates are off, nothing happens, until

2./ You select "manual update", then

3./ BEFORE you are presented with the options to select which updates you want, Windows Update updates itself first, WITHOUT ASKING

If the issue is worse than the above, I agree with everyones complaints. But if it really is only the 123 above, then, IMO, the issue is moot.

"LOL!!! Some of you need to grow up. Nobody is forcing you to buy Windows. This isn't communist China. I on the other hand like to update my software, because most of the time, makes things work better."

Cut the racism out as well.
You're trying to discredit my post by calling me out for racism? LoL. You better look up racism in the dictionary. Calling out a country's economic system is HARDLY racism. If someone were to say, "Free-Market America" would that make them a racist?

Most modern EA titles are on Mac. Blizzard games are on Mac. id is coming to Mac.

Alot of modern games can actually be played on ubuntu with wine.

This has been on the www.theinquirer.net for some time now with the same link that posted at the top.

Ya not going sue them there's shi you can really do thats why they do it.

BUT updating these files without people knowing gets rid of more hacked versions of the net. BUT like some one else said what if it screwed your comp up. i bet they would not pay to put it right after for you as not everyone can correct problems with a PC there for they would have to pay.

I really hope they get taken court my self not due to doing the updates behind your back but due to the fact who else could do this.

But who else can do this theres not very many companies out there except for a handful that are just like Microsoft:laugh::laugh::laugh:

And no they won't get taken to Court because I don't tyhink that thjey would have had those automatically updated unless they knew with 99.99999999999999999999999% certainty that there wouldn't be any problems with theses updates screwing up peoples computers:roll::roll:

ok i got in on this late, but you all need to read your EULA's a bit better, first off, you dont own windows, you pay for the right to use windows, ms can at any time change your os or the EULA, they own it they can do what they like with it, if you dont like it then install desktop bsd and be done with it.

this isnt to big an issue to me, ms didnt update my system when i got back online, infact i was watching for it all day, i dont use auto update, i do it manualy, but then again i use windows 2003 server not xp(hate xp, hate vista.......*hugs his 2003 server* )

and from what i was reading the update was just to ms update files and acctualy was done to close some critical holes that could be exploited by hackers to crash or gain access to your system, so to me that kind of forced update i can live with, where it an update that could totaly fubar windows, then i wouldnt be to keen on it, but i have yet to see a problem with ms update software being updated ;)

dont you realise that ms can fully dissable vista if it even thinks your doing something they dont like?
read your EULA, your not even allowed to work around buggs in vista its against the eula, hence dispite ms GIVING ME VISTA ULTIMET i wont use it, my 2003 works great as it is, and they cant dissable the gfx card if they think im pirating movies or something.........drm sucks!!!!!

you guys and your immature rant and rave... what is the point on disputing what microsoft does? Honestly, WHY are you using windows when you say it sucks balls? Please elaborate.

Glump, do you really think that microsoft puts out updates to deliberately screw us up? Maybe yes for the WGA, but realize this, you guys would do the SAME thing in their position, its a FACT. Secondly, it is very naive and ignorant to "go with the facts" then "go against the facts" to win an argument...please stop! Have you not realized that some microsoft updates have screwed people over with?

"LOL!!! Some of you need to grow up. Nobody is forcing you to buy Windows. This isn't communist China. I on the other hand like to update my software, because most of the time, makes things work better."

Cut the racism out as well.

EDIT: Refrain from the spam guys...

wtf are you talking about? thats not racist, china is communist, i think you need a labotimy, it would help the net out as a whole really :)

The great thing about not being a Linux or Mac fanboy, is the fact that I can order a game and not have to research as to whether or not the game works on my PC - because I know 100% it will work on Windows. I'd rather ALL games work for my PC, than not have MS update 'WINDOWS UPDATE' behind my back (those cruel, cruel assholes). BTW, there's still no proof - out of all of the Billion (1,000,000,000) windows users, that Windows Update has ever corrupted ANY program, file, or databse.

The point is, Bioshock isn't the only modern 3d game and I have no idea what your trying to get at.

They still have no right to change things. Who said they could gamble if one of the updates could course people problems or not. It's not for them to say.

Yes i think it's wrong and i know many others who do too. Shame they cannot make other things work so well as this update(s).

BUT whats is worse if M$ can do this ANY BODY can.

They did not update my system as Outpost Firewall blocks every thing i don't want.
