Samsung's flagship client M.2 NVMe SSD, the 980 PRO, finally has a stock heatsink in new SKUs. Its design calls for what appears to be an aluminium monoblock with ridges for fins that join at the top. This heatsink is held in place by a metal shroud that covers the sides and back of the drive. The drive comes with its own retail SKUs and name—"980 PRO with Heatsink," much like how Western Digital segregates SKUs with or without heatsinks for its flagship WD Black SN850 drives. Retail channel availability of these variants remains to be seen, as The Verge reports that these drives will be sold as PlayStation 5-compatible drives. When they come out on October 29, the 1 TB variant is expected to be priced at $250, with the 2 TB variant going for $450.

Even with a heatsink, which is supposed to cool things down, you will still feel da burn.... of all that moohlah being drained from ya wallet, hehehehe :shadedshu:

Double? What are you smoking? Show me a 1TB PCI-e 4.0 TLC flagship drive for $125. WD sells their SN850 without heatsink for $240(with random discounts it comes below $200) and heatsink version for $284. Comparitively Samsungs 980 Pro indeed is the cheaper option for flagship nvme ssd.

Edit: its wierd times that flagship drives have tlc flash.

At least Samsung Tax meant you're not getting bait-and-switch fcked like shitty Adata and others. But from recent news that's not the case anymore as well.

Given the price of this SSD, buyers would be rocking good boards with proper cooling.
But anyways I don't believe it to be useful.

Actually I have been seeing a lot of entry level builds( R5 or i5 class CPUs with entry level boards) rocking 1TB of flagship class or one step below(SN750 and 970 evo+) SSDs from either Samsung or WDs and none of these entry level boards come with heatsinks for primary SSD slots..
