I think the "(possibly rounded) triangle with the ends cut/rounded off" is the de facto shape of the future, so that it keeps coming back in poorly thought out concepts is hardly surprising.The design reminds me of an old and weird 3-sided (well, hexagonal; 3 long sides and 3 short sides in a triangular-ish shape from above) PC that I think LGR touched on once, which was also designed for "future upgradability". Can't remember the name of the weird PC though.
