Any techPowerUp! readers running Microsoft Office 2003 may be interested to know that Microsoft has just released the third service pack for the software. The main changes are as follows:
  • Office 2003 can no longer open or save certain file formats. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938810.
  • MAPI forms do not run in public folders and user folders. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938816.
  • Office 2003 can now be configured to allow or deny specific COM components. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938815.
  • Some COM components with unusual characteristics may not function as expected. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938814.
  • Changes have been made to the behavior of Microsoft Office Document Imaging. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938813.
  • Attachments with the .gadget extension can no longer be opened in Outlook. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938811.
  • Access add-ins can no longer be configured for use by all users. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938809.
  • The Fast Save setting in Microsoft Office Word has been removed. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938808.
  • Documents saved in certain formats no longer contain the version number of Office. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 938807.

After reading the knowledge base article, it seems like they are doing to prevent people from opening files created by older Office programs(pre-97).

After reading the knowledge base article, it seems like they are doing to prevent people from opening files created by older Office programs(pre-97).

LOL!!!!! better call up Microsoft & have them put me in an order for Office 95

How is all this an improvement?

IMO I think M.Soft didnt have anything to do & it so was that they had to go through their list of 'supported' products & strike a few out

so they had a dabble at some classic time wasting...

Ive moved on from office 2003 long ago. probably just trying to save or scrape up some more revenue by forcing yout to buy newer/older products that support your file type.

they're still supporting Office 2003. I hate it when working on clients' computers using Office 2007. The layouts and the appearances on the 2007 are totally suck.

takes a bit of getting used to but its ok.

Allot of people I know don't like the new GUI, however after I got used to it i like it a lot better. It "visually" makes more sense to me as far as feature placement.

I agree. It's far more intuitive to me. It has a Mac-like feel to it(which I'm quite used to. lol).

The new interface sucks in Office2007, much prefer Office2003 where I can easily access all the options commonly used, simplicity a step too far here...

Meh, I disagree. But it is "to each his own", when it comes to anything interface related.
