The gaming scene changed dramatically last year with the implementation of HDMI 2.1, a new enhancement in connectivity supporting a range of higher video resolutions and refresh rates including 4K @ 120 Hz, a new level for console gamers. A few months ago, console enthusiasts welcomed the first model in the all-new range of Philips Momentum Designed for Xbox monitors, the 559M1RYV (55"/139.7 cm).

Philips Momentum Designed for Xbox console gaming monitors are built to provide the ultimate experience for next-gen console gamers by including the new HDMI 2.1 input, which enables next-gen console gaming with 4K resolution and a fast 120 Hz refresh rate for an ultra-clear and ultra-smooth gaming performance. Now, the Philips monitors portfolio has expanded to include the new 329M1RV (31.5"/80 cm) and 279M1RV (27"/68.5 cm) displays.

Unleash your full potential
This state-of-the-art portfolio meets the new standards of the latest Xbox consoles and the desires of next-gen players, enabling the best gameplay available with a synergically-created monitor. It's now possible to play with ultra-clear 4K resolution at a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate by simply connecting the Xbox Series X via HDMI 2.1 connection. The faster refresh rate ensures a head start on enemies: movements are smoother and clearer, enabling easier targeting. This contributes, along with low latency and fast pixel response, to providing a much smoother and more realistic gaming experience: a great advantage when playing twitch-sensitive video games.

Philips Momentum monitors deliver Designed for Xbox-validated performance with ultra-clear 4K resolution at a minimum 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR support, VRR (variable refresh rate) for smooth and low latency gaming. The Philips Momentum 329M1RV is VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified, which delivers a significant improvement over normal SDR displays, producing astonishing brightness, contrast, and colours. The Philips Momentum 279M1RV is VESA DisplayHDR 600 certified with 600 nits peak luminance and an increased colour gamut for a realistic rendering of effects in gaming and movies. This fluid, tear-free gameplay experience at peak performance is also ensured by AMD FreeSync Premium for the Philips Momentum 329M1RV.

The best quality for the most demanding gamers
Gaming should have no limits, hence these two monitors are not only the best solution for next-gen consoles, but also for PC gaming: the ideal size of the Philips Momentum 279M1RV gives both console and PC gamers the edge they deserve, making the gameplay more driven and entertaining. The Philips Momentum 279M1RV features a Nano IPS panel, which provides true-to-life colour accuracy across wide viewing angles without colour shift, achieving up to 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut standard. This makes it a great choice for colour-critical imaging or productivity needs and ensures an exceptional gaming experience. This model also features USB-C (the slim plug-in cable that transfers data while charging). And there's more: it's G-SYNC compatible, meaning it syncs the monitor's refresh rate with the graphic card's output for a smoother gaming experience, providing beautiful visuals and a serious competitive edge.

Astonishing inside and out
These Momentum monitors are characterised by a seamless design made of high-quality materials, earning them a 2020 Red Dot Design award. Both the 329M1RV and the 279M1RV gaming monitors make a great impression with their striking base, which ensures great stability and offers a stylistic choice for any gaming set-up, with height, tilt and swivel adjustment as well as cable management. Moreover, the two models are equipped with Ambiglow, the Philips technology that adds a new dimension to the viewing experience by creating a halo of matching light from the LEDs on the monitor's rear cover.

The immersion goes a step further with DTS Sound, which enables a virtual surround sound experience, complete with rich bass, dialogue enhancement and maximised volume levels free of any clipping or distortion.

Philips 329M1RV and 279M1RV will be available from November 2021 at an RRP of £899.99 and £719.99 respectively.

Pointless, you can get a bigger and way better OLED for a similar price, monitor manufacturers should get their act together and sell their monitors for a reasonable price 500-600$ is a reasonable range.

I agree that 2160p120+ monitors are too expensive, but TV comparisons (and especially OLED TV comparisons) are rather stupid. TVs outsell gaming monitors by 10-100x easily, and thus have massive scale advantages in bringing down costs, especially amortization of R&D costs. Also, TVs (yes, even the 48" ones) are too big to use on a desk unless you are one of the lucky (very) few for which this wouldn't be a major ergonomic problem. Of course, current OLED TVs also have an RGBW subpixel array which leads to issues for text rendering and the like. Hardly ideal. They are fantastic for what they do, and outshine monitors in many, many ways, but a 1:1 comparison is just wrong. Plus, you can easily argue for how monitors are poor value without invoking the "just put a huge TV on your desk" line of thinking.

IMO, these look rather underwhelming. Philips generally doesn't compete in the high end of monitors, and things like the "HDR"400 rating for the 32" panel here underscores this. The featureset looks decent - USB hub, USB-C input (hopefully that means KVM functionality), ambilight?, clean designs, integrated PSUs; there are some good things here. A single DP is a bit meh while 3x HDMI feels a bit overkill, but I guess it's fine - the USB-C should do DP as well, at least, and if you're one of those weirdos who insists on HDMI on your PC and have two consoles, you can do that here. But we know nothing about panel performance and overdrive tuning, and regardless of this they really need to come down in price.

At least it's good that these are finally showing up - the 329m1r was first rumored back in august of 2019, more than two years ago. It was reportedly delayed to add HDMI 2.1, but still - that took a while!

Nope, that one was 328m1r:
it was suppose to be VA, HDR600 and 120 Hz. Those high refresh VA panels are stuck in limbo.

As someone who got a 278M1R for £330 in March, these look...sanely priced for what they are? I like the design and it seems unchanged from my model.
