AMD to Host Accelerated Data Center Premiere Virtual Event on November 8, 2021

AMD will host its Accelerated Data Center Premiere on November 8, 2021 at 11 a.m. ET, showcasing the company's upcoming innovations with AMD EPYC processors and AMD Instinct accelerators. The virtual event is slated to feature presentations from AMD President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Data Center and Embedded Solutions Business Group Forrest Norrod, and Senior Vice President and General Manager, Server Business Unit Dan McNamara. The event will be accessible to the public at this page starting at 11 a.m. ET. A replay will be available and can be accessed after the conclusion of the livestream event.

Editor's Note: We expect AMD to announce several SKUs in its MI200-series "Aldebaran" compute accelerator family, along with a new line of EPYC "Milan-X" enterprise processors that leverage the new "Zen 3+" chiplet that comes with 64 MB 3D Vertical Cache memory on top of the 32 MB L3 cache.

Latest rumors suggest next threadripper is WRX80 only and matches 5950X on single thread so no 3dV cache.

I am sitting on a WRX80 board so it is ok.

Threadripper Pro never had the same boost clock as the MSDT part (3950x-4.7GHz vs 3955WX-4.3GHz)
If the Threadripper Pro 5000 really has the same single thread performance as 5950x , it could be either a 5GHz boost threadripper , or 3DV-cached.

Threadripper Pro never had the same boost clock as the MSDT part (3950x-4.7GHz vs 3955WX-4.3GHz)
If the Threadripper Pro 5000 really has the same single thread performance as 5950x , it could be either a 5GHz boost threadripper , or 3DV-cached.

I'm sitting on a TRX40 board with a monoblock etc that would make changing the board an expensive upgrade.
Bit sh*tty of AMD if they have killed the TR4 platform after they themselves said the following when questioned of the change away from X399:
"The socket change also sets us up nicely for future development and scalability of the Threadripper platform, both on a near- and long-term basis."

Bit sh*tty of AMD if they have killed the TR4 platform after they themselves said the following when questioned of the change away from X399:
"The socket change also sets us up nicely for future development and scalability of the Threadripper platform, both on a near- and long-term basis."

Yeah it will be really bad if TRX40 only survive one generation.
Hope they could make the TR 5000 work on TRX40.
Not everyone needs 8 memory channels and ECC support, and all the IPMI features...

It would be very shitty but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to clean up their line-up. They should honour what they promised with TRX40 but the current line up with threadripper - threadripper pro - epyc doesn't make a ton of sense.

The big difference between threadripper pro and epyc is the motherboard features for a workstation vs bare board with very few ports for a server. Meanwhile regular threadripper is nearfed a lot when compared with the workstation/server variants.

Frontier is launching soon. AMD needs to release MI200 documentation so that those at ORNL know how to program it!!

Yes, it would make things tidier but surely this has been in their pipeline for ages so if they were planning a discontinuation they shouldn't have made the statement they were discontinuing X399 in favour of upgrade-ability.
