Prominent chip designers like AMD and NVIDIA could bless consumers with a broader offering of their new products as soon as CES 2022 arrives. AMD should present its rumored Rembrandt-H lineup of processors based on the enhanced Zen 3 core, sometimes referred to as Zen 3+. According to the latest report coming from MyLaptopsGuide, Bluetooth SIG has some data entry about ASUS'es upcoming ROG Zephyrus Duo GX650 laptop that integrates AMD Rembrandt-H processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series graphics. As the website claims, the heart of this laptop will be AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX processor built on TSMC's 6 nm manufacturing process. We don't know much about this model, but we expect it to refine the previous Ryzen 9 5900HX.

We again see the rumored NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card for mobile, powering the graphics side of things. This model is supposedly based on GA103S GPU SKU, which is likely tailor-made for laptops in mind and exclusive to them. ASUS has also paired 16 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM with an AMD Ryzen processor, suggesting that Rembrandt-H has a new memory controller in place. This laptop model also has a 16-inch 300 Hz Full HD screen with anti-glare; however, the amount of information ended there. We have to wait for CES 2022 launch to find out more.

This makes me wonder if the next desktop Ryzen will be AM4 or not. Before this I just assumed it will be AM4.

(Yeah I know it's not confirmed specs from ASUS.)

It was already officially confirmed by AMD that AM4 will get another generation soon, based on Zen3 with 3DVCache technology

Steamdeck is RDNA2 +Zen2 +LPDDR5 soo, probably Zen3+ But AMD is known to tweak things on mobile in a half step to new architecture, low hanging fruit they call it.

It really sucks big time that this otherwise nice laptop will get only a crappy Nvidia VGA instead of the more powerful and better overall Radeon RX 6800 series.

uhh what? AMD's Mobile 6000 series is pretty good for the price but from the benchmarks I've seen, Nvidia is still slightly ahead, depending on the laptop/power model you get.

No camera? I don't get why only Asus laptops with intel cpus comes with camera. Seems a shady way to put AMD at a disadvantage.

You can always get an external camera if that's an important thing for you.

But what image quality setting? You aware that Nvidia uses lower image quality from the driver, for example the RTX 3080 with 10 GB of video memory reduces the textures resolution?
So, you don't have apples-to-apples real-world benchmark comparison.

There's very little solid information. I'm hanging on my seat for news to decide what to buy, AM5 is supposed to only come late next year but desktop zen3+ could be just about the 3d cache. Or the refreshed rdna2 desktop apus can end up being business only (not great but it's something, at least they exist and there's some shady avenue for me to get one :D)

Steamdeck is RDNA2 +Zen2 +LPDDR5 soo, probably Zen3+ But AMD is known to tweak things on mobile in a half step to new architecture, low hanging fruit they call it.

Steamdeck is a custom solution done by a different division, it's not bound by the desktop/laptop/server/whatever specs, just like PS5/Xbox (reason why the ps5 recycled amd mini desktop kit has such a weird configuration)

If you use a laptop that likely means mobility is important for you, therefore having to carry an external camera becomes an inconvenience.

This is a desktop replacement laptop. You don't carry this thing on a business trip, or in the airplane.
This is for gaming at home.

But why would people not build a true real PC, is beyond me.

I also prefer a desktop. With the pandemic many need to work or study from home so this not having a camera can be a deal breaker for many, that's why I think it's shady. Also, amd cpus are cheaper so there's no reason to not put a camera.

Well, for me the lack of Radeon and 3840x2160 or at least a 2560x1440 screen is a deal breaker.
An external camera is better, those that come integrated are usually low resolution 720p ones.

I always thought that was a rumour floating around the interwebs for years saying that ATI/AMD GPU's have sharper picture output compared to Nvidia's, judging from my experience for 19years swapping between both GPU companies I believed ATI/AMD's were a tad bit sharper, But that was back during the ATI 9000 series to the HD5000 series, now days I can't tell the difference at all.

Yes: Far Cry 6 needs more VRAM than the Nvidia RTX 3080 has to load HD textures | PCGamesN

Fortunately, DSOGaming’s performance analysis shows that the RTX 3080 and the RTX 2080 Ti can just about handle the HD texture pack when running the game at 1440p resolution. Crank this up to 4K with ray tracing on, however, and you’ll have a bit of a problem, as low resolution textures end up mixed in with their high resolution counterparts.

To Ubisoft’s credit, Far Cry 6 explicitly tells you in the menu that you’ll need at least 11GB of video memory to run the HD texture pack.

No camera?
Exactly, it should be standard at least on these expensive models. There's no excuse for it.

I'm tired of all these arguments that a specific laptop model can only serve one purpose, like gaming for instance.
I'm pretty sure that a 3000€ machine works pretty well with most programs given the processors, and that extra display would come in handy as well.

Seems a shady way to put AMD at a disadvantage.
You're wrong, the Intel variant doesn't have it either.

Maybe it's a new trend that more models are stripped off their cameras.
Better get used to it, because otherwise you'll be all the time disappointed.

The laptop makers don't care about the users.

For example, why a 300Hz 1080p screen, and not 144Hz 2160p screen that is much sharper, much crisper and much better offer overall?

Many questions, no answers.

I think you know the answer. The model above is ONE of many variants, or SKU's. Same goes for choice of GPU. As you can see in my link, the older models had a 4k option.

You aware that Nvidia uses lower image quality from the driver, for example the RTX 3080 with 10 GB of video memory reduces the textures resolution?

Neither do you. This laptop has a 3080 Ti, which is unrelated to the amount of VRAM on the desktop 3080.
With the current mobile 3080 I see half of them have only 8 GB, and the other have 16 GB, I doubt the TI will have 10 GB or less, 16 GB is more likely.

You don't have to travel to prefer an integrated camera, and you don't have to work to want a camera.
A separate camera is more of an inconvenience than expected.

- You want to close the lid? Remove the camera.
- Move the laptop from one room to another? Don't drop the camera, or remove it.
- Put it away? Remove.
- Put it in your car? Guess what.

This is an excellent machine for 3D work besides gaming, and I highly doubt that a user would buy a separate creator laptop for 3D work for another 3-4000€ besides this one.

The lack of camera on budget models like the TUF series is more obvious and acceptable, but this is a premium model.

I am talking about Asus Rog laptops or those with top ryzen 9 7 and rtx 3080 3070, the ones with AMD cpu don't come with camera while intel does.

I don't know anything about that, I was just referring to the Zephyrus Duo models where no model seems to have a camera.

To everyone complaining about the lack of web cam, The new laptops pair your smartphone with the laptop to use as the webcam. Just bought my sons ASUS ROG STRIX 2021 laptops.

Yeah, I used to hook up my phone to the laptop like ten years ago, it worked but not as convenient as actually have one built in.

Oh and welcome to TPU! :)
