it's such a fuss because he's gonna deliver some tape out for new GPUs, perhaps???? That's what usualy happens when NVIDIA's CEO makes news for similar....
I don't think it is about GPUs. Intel is just trying with small strides to enter the GPU market. The CPUs are more concerning since they are losing ground here. These news and the CEO going to TSMC is a proclamation of something important but basically it is to calm the stakeholders and customers telling there is something great going on. A show-off to calm everyone that there are some fixing procedures in play which only buys time or postpone something. What it does say it's just a play and if the case is CPUs being fabed at TSMC means Intel knows already their node is inferior. Two CEOs of different companies meet and people always think about great things to happen. Nothing may come out of it. It's just a PR stunt.

I think they are trying to build a reliable person CEO who drives the company just like AMD with Lisa. That just popped into my head straight from the start. The good CEO leader.
I guess that's a possibility, but they seem to be going down the Nvidia router, rather than the AMD route...
Very much this, though with a glimmer of Tesla in there as well, at least in how they're trying to portray him. It's not going to work, and is just as likely to backfire, but ... meh. AMD and Dr. Su have built up an image slowly, over time, with ambitious plans, strategy, and crucially execution, all the while being relatively devoid of bluster and bragging (RTG under Koduri notwithstanding). This is the polar opposite of that in terms of communication - it's all bluster and bragging, from the get-go. I understand why they're trying that, as the "hey, we have ambitious plans, we'll be on top in a few years" approach only works if you're an underdog - for someone with an 80+% market share, that looks like admitting defeat to a lot of people (particularly investors). But I still think they're just coming off as a parody of weird and out-of-touch "look how strong and capable our leader is (but he's also human, look, he's in a bulldozer!)" PR strategies. I mean ... they understand that most people DGAF about CEOs, right? That people only care about CEOs if they have a reason to, i.e. if they have a history of delivering actually good products? Not that Alder Lake isn't good, but given how many years that has been in the works it is exactly 0% due to this (seeming) clown. Not to mention that a CEO acting like a clown mostly undermines their credibility despite products being good. Though one might of course posit Musk as a counterargument to that, given his devoted cult of followers. And, of course, investors seem to love loud, obnoxious braggarts, so there's that.

This tells me Intel either has no fab improvements worked out and need to kiss ass, or they have something so amazing only Raj could have been responsible.

With a news about his doing everyday, this Pat feel like Trump

Not sure that is a great idea. And it behave a bit like him too. Saying one thing one day like We should be independent of Tawain then saying he will do more business with them.

To me, it start to feel like a real shit show.

I expect nothing will really happen. It'll be a PR stunt, while the reality is that TSMC won't likely budge to Intel even on future negotiations because they know for a fact that Intel is a rival; they're only borrowing time with TSMC until they can get their own fabs sufficiently up to par. That kind of business isn't good compared to long-time and loyal customers with consistent demand. Intel will need to prove its sincerity about long-term production with TSMC before they can start fighting for capacity (especially against titans like Apple and Nvidia).

That said, Intel did buy up a sizable run to temporarily become the 2nd highest customer for that production period; likely to try and choke AMD and Nvidia. Granted, AMD and Nvidia have back-up plans with Samsung and Nvidia is more likely to buy back production volume with their next major architecture. AMD notably seems to be shifting their low power or lower-spec GPUs to Samsung (on top of their joint collab with Samsung to integrate RDNA with ARM) while keeping their TSMC orders up for the high-end and high-margin products, in an effort to increase availability.

Now the other player needed on the board is GloFo, maybe by licensing Samsung's node process again (licensing TSMC's would be better, but I'm not sure if TSMC is as game to that as Samsung is/was), along with an infusion from the CHIPS Act to mandate that they use the funds to attain a new leading edge node and build or upgrade a Fab to produce it.

There are rumours based on incomplete evidence that Intel might become the second customers in importance for that production period, but right now there are just TSMC that really know the truth.

And it all depend on how people see those. it could be just that contract with Nvidia and AMD are still being negotiated or haven't been announced publicly and people do not count them in the mix. There might still be a large production capability that is still to be sold.

i would be very surprised that TSMC make Intel their second main partner before AMD when Intel state clearly and loudly that they want to overthrow TSMC and get back the lead. And even become a foundry itself.

Because of billions of incentives from the US Government that look to be being shadow limited to US companies only.
Maybe you think TSMC will act for short term gains over long term pains? I think you'll find that a lot of companies in this part of the world don't work that way!

This tells me Intel either has no fab improvements worked out and need to kiss ass, or they have something so amazing only Raj could have been responsible.
They have noting, all hot air off the wrong side

Intel should only be allowed to use their own nodes....they made their bed, now they should have to lie in it...at least until AMD has 50% of the x86 T.A.M. and can increase their R&D budget 650% to intel levels.....people do not realize how truly precarious AMD's situation still is....
