NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Mobile Brings 16 Gbps Memory and TGP of 175 Watts

NVIDIA is preparing to launch an ultimate solution for high-end laptops and gamers that could benefit from the high-performance graphics card integration in mobile systems like gaming laptops. Rumored to launch sometime in January, NVIDIA is preparing a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti mobile GPU SKU that supposedly offers the highest performance in the Ampere mobile family. According to sources close to VideoCardz, team green has prepared to announce RTX 3080 Ti mobile design with faster memory and higher total graphics power (TGP). The memory speed will get an upgrade to 16 Gbps, compared to the 14 Gbps speed in RTX 3080 mobile SKU.

Similarly, the total overall TGP will also receive a bump to 175 Watts. This is just a tad higher than the 165 Watt TGP of RTX 3080 mobile. The Ti version will upgrade the CUDA core count and other things like TMUs to undetermined specifications. Currently, it is rumored that the Ti version could carry 7424 CUDA cores, which is an upgrade from 6144 of the regular RTX 3080 version.

I just hope they focus on better cooling to so no throttling, but lets be honest here lads, the price is going to be so ridiculous, it won't be worth it, and for 10-20 fps less, you can get a rx 6800m laptop for 1k to 1.5k cheaper.

i m pretty sure that laptop markest is way bigger than desktop, yet I m too lazy to find any graph or site showing that.
I could agree 10 years ago, but now hmm most people want even at home portable stuff.

Yes, because most laptops have geforce cards in them LMFAO. Please observe the following:

the gaming laptop market

Most of the laptop market is standard consumer machine sor business laptops. Conversely, the gaming desktop market makes up a much larger chunk of the oerall desktop market, on account of so many businesses and homes moving to laptops for daily drivers.

Same reason intel sells more GPUs then AMD and nvidia combined, by a large margin. Most of those are basic consumer laptops. The market for the 3080ti mobile is the small ultra high end niche of the gaming laptop niche.

Most laptops in the market will have difficulties cooling this graphic solution. 175W is just the TGP, and the bump in memory speed will also increase power consumption, and therefore, heat output.

Power draw on these high end gaming laptops just mean you're tethered to an outlet. Outside of some one that does a lot of traveling that might benefit on mobility for gaming, doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of a gaming computer?

If you're very mobile and constantly on the go, sure, I guess it's a good fit for you. Anyone else wouldn't it just make more sense to get a desktop (you know, if it's easily obtainable - a discrete GPU, that is)?

I agree and I can attest from personal experience that laptops are a very bad replacement for a proper desktop and are harder to get replacement parts as the laptop ages. Another thing that can be a pain in the ass is the battery since laptops always run off power from the battery regardless of whether or not you have it plugged in. Unless mobility is an absolute necessity, always go with a desktop.
Anyway, for now it might not be a bad idea since its probably easier to get a laptop with a decent graphics card in it than it is to get a desktop with a more modern AMD/NVidia card.

Maybe one day laptops will be as powerful as desktops, but it's not today. Instead of buying this gpu, I would build a SFF desktop. More powerful and it would last almost as long :lol:

Yeah my 2070 Super 15in laptop get a little noisy with 90W, 175W for GPU should only be for 17in+ laptops.

My recommendation is usually to separate the device you use for work/study since people tend to prefer lighter devices. If you want a good gaming system, just get a desktop separately. I don't think a high end gaming laptop with this GPU will come cheap, and it is possible to get both a slim but decent laptop + a gaming desktop for the asking price. For me, laptops are very bad for gaming because they tend to run quite a fair bit slower than a desktop, sounds like a vacuum cleaner with fan at full speed, runs hot, and you are basically at the mercy of how well or badly the cooling solution is implemented.

I remember when GTX 480M (similar to GTX 465) had a 100W TDP and everyone said that it's insane for a laptop GPU. I know, times change, but still.

Honestly, I think no chip above 100 W TDP should be anywhere near a laptop. But then, nvidia sadly hasn't got much below 100 W in their current lineup, so...
