They definitely dropped the ball this time. Intel is way ahead and all amd can come up with is some laptop cpu's, an e-waste gpu. The 5700X3D looks okay though.
Can you pass me that crack pipe you're smoking please? Or tell us what it is you're basing this statement on exactly (if you're not being sarcastic or just trolling)?

I bought Intel stocks just before Alder Lake's launch expecting a Ryzen style comeback and dumped all of them this week, as I don't see where Intel are going with their nonsense -- constantly talking smack ("AMD is over", "Intel is back", blah blah blah) whilst delivering flop after flop. The only time Intel even gets close to being decent is after their previous gen CPUs hit EOL and get put on fire sales by retailers. To say Intel's current architecture is a disaster is the understatement of the century -- basically Rocket Lake with minor tweaks and some very useless Atom cores duct-taped to it to massage power consumption numbers.

Intel were already doubling Ryzen 5000's power consumption numbers for roughly the same performance with Alder Lake (launched just a few months ago). Now that AMD reduced their power consumption supposedly by another 30% and increasing performance by double digit percentages, Intel are dead in the water. DDR5 is unobtanium currently due to being scalped (making Intel's platform and pricing advantage mostly useless) and AMD already said the CPU launch after Zen 4 will have its own efficiency cores also built in (whilst their current performance cores are already beating Intel in performance and energy consumption massively). By the time Intel wake up and respond with their next energy-guzzling architecture 9 months or so from now, we will probably have energy prices double that of today -- making Ryzen look even better and Zen 4 will easily drive their performance up even further by 40%+ from current Zen 3D CPUs.

Don't even get me started on their vaporware Alchemist GPUs -- constantly comparing themselves to GPUs that are multiple generations old (if I wanted GTX 1650 level performance, I would've bought it 3 years ago). Their track record for driver support -- even for current iGPUs with existing huge market share, is an even bigger joke and doesn't inspire any confidence (performance even in mainstream apps is a disaster and completely broken with artifacts & glitches all over the place). Until I see Intel backing up their smack talk with products worth a damn -- I'm hopping off their hype train...

What's the point of doing a 5950x or 5900x when they have two chiplet dies there is no way to keep that data from going to the other die, causing degrading performance.
this 5800x3D is a good upgrade for anyone who has a 5600x or lower say 3700x 2700x.

Only one CPU with 3D cache and that, with 8 cores! They even hold the core clocks and W down as to the 5800X to allow Zen4 CPUs to seem an even bigger jump in performance with their 5GHz all-core clocks and improved IPC. As for RX5500XT, availability will make it or brake it. For 1650Ti performance and low power draw (~100W), the $200 price would be decent ONLY if it stays there. At least for the near future, good gaming without spending a fortune will be had through consoles, mobile or APUs.

I think the reason they went with the 5800X is that the production run for 3D Cache in the 5000-Series will be limited (they'll invest more 3D vCache in the Ryzen 7000). 5800X is the highest-performing single CCX/monolithic die out there, so if they were to release a 5900X3D, it would take up two dies with 3D vCache, which would mean they'd make half the CPUs. If push comes to shove, they can issue an extra special limited edition 5900X3D of some sort that will absolutely annihilate everything Intel currently has on desktop, bar Threadripper (which no one seems to be talking about because AMD seems to have stopped talking about it too)

Ryzen 7000 is all 3D vCache anyway, judging by the new IHS on top of the package, and it's slated for (my guess) September. Intel won't bring anything out in the meantime, so it's all very much a bland CES.

Agree on 6500XT. If it can sell for $200, it'll disappear off the virtual shelves in seconds. In the UK we're finding the 1650 for about $400 and higher. Newegg (US pricing) is selling these cards for $360.

Shit time to be in PC gaming.

PS: Did anyone figure out if 5800X3D is on the same process as 5000-series or 7000-series? AMD slides say they're on different processes

Source ? Many people said All cores. even 5950X golden can reach 5.1ghz on single core.
To clarify:
1641381442900.png

The "5 GHz" was not related to Zen4, it was in regards to Ryzen 6000, which are Zen3+, and yeah it was "Single core, single thread".

So 6 years of waiting, and we get a 5500xt with a gimped 4GB 64 bit bus with a 6500xt nameplate for the same price as a RX 480 in 2016. After stating in 2020 that the 4GB GPU was "dead".

I think we need to rename "finewine" to "sour grapes". Cmon, intel kick AMD's arse with the A380 please.
Here is your A380
VH-OQB-takes-of-from-Dresden-bound-for-Sydney.jpeg

I just laughed looking at my B350 the moment Lisa Su said "Zen 3D Supported by the AM4 platform" like she didn't just put my fellow 300 chipset owners(except OEM's A320) in the planned obsolescence bin to force us to buy B550/X570 and upgrade to a borderline EOL socket.
Rule of thumb is never buy into a brand new platform, version 1, wait for version 2 at least and you would of been right, just think if you was on an Intel system from back then you be even more screwed!

Wrong !
She said ( Time 40:11 ) :
I can you tell you that all of those Zen 4 cores are running at 5 gigahertz during this demo.this is next generation of gaming and PC experiences from amd

Intel has separate dies
Intel needs separate dies because it would financially cripple them if they had to repurpose giant 600mm^2+ slabs of silicon just to get an 8 core CPU to consumers. It is actually laughable that they need to do this, this isn't something to boast about, it shows that they are stuck on archaic manufacturing processes. And just so you know Intel is moving to chiplets as well, so very soon you will also have the privilege to buy rejected trash from Intel as well.

Also, the reason AMD uses chiplets is precisely so that they don't have to repurpose rejected dies from servers, they are so small that most of them are functional and it doesn't matter whether they end up in consumer or server products. Goes to show what level of catastrophic lack of knowledge you have on this subject.

No 12 core part, super disappointing.
Will still be an upgrade for you coming from Zen 2.

I had your chip and went to a 5800X and it was noticeably faster. Add another 15% on top of that and its going to be like 30-35% faster than what you are currently on.

If AMD was below Intel and Nvidia they had more RAM on the GPU, now they are on pair with Intel and think they can follow the low RAM tactic which was Nvidia use.
And now Nvidia have even more.

Same reason why I'll never buy first gen AM5 or B550/X570(s) for a borderline EOL socket.
ADL seems like better value in terms of raw performance, also when Raptor Lake will face AM5 I'll most likely be able to save my DDR4 kit if I go for Intel.
What's Amd strategy here?

Pretty sure the whole 3D cache thing is gonna be niche. Zen4 looks interesting. Best I can tell the two-core types in one core is all about variable clock and power ramps (along with scheduling changes, I assume)

All of the new external ceramic package transistors are probably to shunt core voltage. Gonna make for a warm package/socket. I wouldn't use liquid metal or conductive paste on that IHS..
