I get that. I don't really get them either. However as I said on the biostar article, I do not really understand the hatred towards them either. This is just the board makers grifting the crypto community (or trying to anyways) for easy money... I'd think you guys would love that?
Saying they are just grifting the crypto (which IS good) the questions for me then become, what others do they "grift" for easy money and does their grifting of the crypto keep prices down for the rest of us?

IF they get into NFTs and start making bank, will that prevent them from hiking prices on mobos, GPUs, etc.? Because IF this keeps them from raising prices what is the harm? OR is this a desperation move to try to raise funds for a company that is cash strapped and in heavy debt?

It lets me know what companies to avoid so it is useful information in that regard.
Selling NFT is not reason to avoid a company. Companies do all sorts of silly stuff to get under the skin of their target market. I'm willing to bet most of the suits over there don't get NFTs either.

Me, I have abetter reason to avoid AsRock: they sold me a dead mobo, the service said they'll replace it and sent me back the same dead mobo. However, there aren't many alternatives with Asus being usually overpriced and MSI seemingly always cutting too many corners :(

I can't think of a single example where a company kept their prices the same or reduced them on any product due to finding decent profits through a tangential avenue unless market conditions forced it.

Exactly my point, they won't and it won't help the rest of us. But who else are they "grifting" and is this a desperate attempt to help a cash strapped company and is grifting the only way they feel they can make profit?

Me, I have abetter reason to avoid AsRock: they sold me a dead mobo, the service said they'll replace it and sent me back the same dead mobo. However, there aren't many alternatives with Asus being usually overpriced and MSI seemingly always cutting too many corners :(
I built my rig last year and had to go with Asus after being a loyal MSI guy for 15+ years. Same reason as you 2 dead mobos. I was able to return the second one (Edge Wifi) to Micro Center for an Asus Strix Z590E. The first was a Gaming Plus they told me to send in for an RMA... 8 weeks later nothing, so I emailed and waited a week, (in the meantime I built my rig with the Asus so it wasn't like I truly needed the board just didn't want to lose money). Finally, I called and they said that they could offer me a $20 refund. I laughed and said, "no, just send me a new board or what I paid $200+"(don't remember the exact amount doesn't matter)). They said they couldn't send a replacement because they didn't have any in stock and there were no refunds per MSI policy. I was like ok, I'll just contact the my State atty general's consumer affairs dept. and make a report against you, then go to the BBB and whatever other avenues are available.

Long story short they sent me a motherboard in a plain white box, that was a refurbed A-Pro. I opened it just to check if it was even in the box and what they said it was. After listing it on eBay for a couple months I finally got $50 for it (the buyer who tried to cancel after winning the auction claimed after he got it that it was a used mobo, I even told him and adverted it was a refurb and being sent exactly how I received it from MSI). MSI lost a loyal customer because of this and Asus now has my trust and business. I don't really see the prices as being that different between the 2, as the EDGE wifi and the Strix E were basically the same price and Micro Center was great with their handling of the exchange making it a straight up trade.

and they said NFT was dead..:shadedshu:
Dead? It's stillborn but hopefuls and scammers just want to keep the con, sorry, I mean 'dream' alive. I'm just waiting for everything to implode so I can watch everything burn from the reserved seating section.

/me crosses ASRock off his potential upgrades list.

Problem is we are running out of companies to buy from, turns out they are all dbags.

I really don't get TPU some days...

Seems like NFT's do boost ETH even if it is a roundabout way, regardless, both are stupid as **** and I hope government steadily increases the tax rates on both over the years, as well as on ciggs and vapes. Hopefully all these idiots end up paying for free university someday with the taxes on it all, but America is a failed nation state with Congress bought and paid for, so I doubt that ever happens. Ah Rome... how quickly you fell this time... hehehe

I mean, the other option is to just boycott PC hardware altogether, which I am seriously considering doing now. The only devices that I plan on keeping will be my phone and a thin-and-light laptop.

PC hardware manufacturers/sellers have been creating way too many problems lately. Between low availability, high prices, and now NFTs, there is just no more fun left in the hobby for me.

Yep, I already stopped looking for a laptop as of a couple nights ago, once I saw the 3070 ti laptop on costco costing 2500 bucks instead of the supposed 1400 its supposed to cost... I decided I am giving up on the hobby. Maybe in a few years I will come back. honestly, I am happy with my 1070 laptop and indie games.

fuck nft and crypto and all these scammers and bots. same as when I quit multiplayer gaming many many years ago cause of the 'subtle hackers' ruining everything, I really been wanting to read and workout more anyway, so now I have a good reason to rotate this hobby out. when I do come back I will be doing research to see if any did not participate in crypto or nft, and if they didn't they will be getting my money when I come back.

I literally do not understand anything from this article. Yeah, NFT's are not for my brain.
NFT emerged because of the blockchain technologies on which they 'live'.

Do you not understand the NFT in particular or the whole blockchain thing? Also, please don't confuse blockchain with DeFi, as the later is a concept that 'lives' on the blockchain too.

I hate the players in the consumer market for PC parts. They are all cheap dbags.
That's why is prefer to save a bit more and shop for enterprise gear like Supermicro, HPE, etc.

Their support and QA are really on another level and even a decent second hand offering can last almost a lifetime.

As I said above you may want to try HP's business series. Price is high but the quality? Oh, man...

Just reading the title, I burst out laughing. It's borderline comedic at this point, I expected to see a new "[Satire]" tag. It checks all the boxes, we got NFTs, the metaverse, cryptocurrency, total arrogance... "The leading manufacturer," sure, maybe alphabetically.

I don't see how. The currency stays in circulation, etc.

Well what do you expect for free, exactly?

See I thought about that, but felt that consumers needed to know what the companies they support are up to- good or bad.
Honestly, I don't view grifting crypto NFT-idiots as bad... especially when a portion goes fo charity.

It would be hilarious if it didnt ooze sadness. Wow.
None of these have sold yet lol. Not even a bid. It does ooze sadness.
Saying they are just grifting the crypto (which IS good) the questions for me then become, what others do they "grift" for easy money and does their grifting of the crypto keep prices down for the rest of us?

Those would be very good questions, actually. Thanks for providing some rational, reasonable concerns.

I don't get the negativity towards NFT's, isn't an NFT basically just a fraud-proof digital certificate for digital or physical assets? Like a title for your car or house, but digitally verifiable through the block chain. I see the link from mining and the current scarcity of gaming GPU's, but the core concept itself isn't bad?...or have I missed something something crucial?

Imagine Leonardo da Vinci had an art cloning machine. He used it to create an infinite number of identical Mona Lisa paintings and sold each for $100. Then he took a piece of paper, and on that piece of paper he wrote "I, Leonardo da Vinci, declare that the person who owns this piece of paper owns an extra special version of the Mona Lisa. That version is special purely because this piece of paper says it's special even though it's exactly the same as others sold for $100." Then he sold that piece of paper for $1 billion. An NFT is that piece of paper. It's simply a piece of digital paper that says you own that piece of digital paper (literal circular logic). It is in no way, shape or form any guarantee that whatever thing that the piece of paper "promises" is valuable, unique, confers any anti-counterfeiting technology on the item (that's DRM) or even that the person selling you that piece of paper is the owner of, or has any legal right to sell you, whatever thing the piece of paper "promises" you is "yours".

So, no it's nothing remotely like a title deed for a house. NFT's only real positive use is to highlight stupid rich people and sh*tty gaming / hardware companies to blacklist and avoid in future.

yep, title of a House or car for example, will still be done by government/lawyers/real estate established companies. NFT's will have no place there.

NFT's are new use for scammers to scam the lower IQ's of our society, just as crypto does. ransomware would not have increased so dramatically in recent years if it were not for crypto as well. society is very fragile, and it is a shame we do not have world leaders that are willing to speak for the honest working person who does a 9 to 5, instead they all play word games and have offshore banks. crypto won't help us. NFT's won't help us. what will help us is someone who is young who comes along and says enough is fucking enough, bans crpyto and nft's from all businesses, bans spam calls with a new way of doing telephone numbers, creates a basic universal healthcare (basic not full), forgives student loans and pays for it by legalizing weed with 100% federal tax profits on it going to only forgiving student loans

and so on and so forth.

Anyone got a shit list? Of manufacturers to avoid (and why)? Ty

I might work on making this list and a thread for it. It will be as famous as LinusTechTips thread on power supply grading of tiers.

Never forget my brothers, buy from the companies who hold true - this will be the title of the thread.

WE ARE NOT MANY BROTHERS! BUT WHEN THE 10,000 URUKS CHARGED HELMS DEEP WE STOOD TOGETHER AND WON THE DAY! AND WE WILL DO SO AGAIN!

my god this thread is going to be glorious beyond all belief, what idea have you given me? glorious in all its might!

mods themselves will promote this thread, for it will be the Light incarnate!

If Gigabyte is the last company on the list that has not gone the NFT route, I will fly to their HQ, and in their parking lot I will forge all of them new armor of glorious pearl white plate armor, THEY WILL BE REBORN AGAIN! THEN YOU WILL ACCEPT THEM! YOU WILL BUY ALL THEY OFFER! FOR THEY WILL NO LONGER BE GIGABYTE, BUT ASCENDED GIGABYTE!

but on a more serious note, yes this thread would be awesome. I will contemplate it for some time in meditation. when the thread is ready, I will tag you and Bsim500, and you both shall know Glory that most men will never come across in life, for we will unite the realms of men under one banner of honor!
