TSMC is working on multiple N3 nodes, with at least N3, N3B and N3E currently being in development. N3 is scheduled for production in 2023, with the N3E node originally being scheduled for 2024, but it now looks like it will be ready ahead of schedule. The N3E node was meant to be an enhanced version of the N3 node, but it now seems to be more of an alternative node, based on fewer EUV layers, supposedly down from 25 to 21 layers, which would make it easier to manufacture. According to details via Morgan Stanley, the N3E node is said to be around eight percent less dense than the original N3 node, but still around 60 percent denser than the N5 node. For comparison, the N3 node was said to have 70 percent denser logic than the N5 node.

The report suggests that the N3E node might be finished by the end of this month, which means production could end up being pulled in by a whole quarter, from Q3'23 to Q2'23. The N3E node is said to "feature improved manufacturing process window with better performance, power and yield", so we might see the N3E node being used for future products by just about anyone that is looking at making high-performance silicon. The N3E node is also said to have higher yields than the N3B node, with N3B said to be an improved version of N3 for certain customers. Not much else is known about the N3B node at the moment.

The fact that every industry has a supply chain?!

This is cutting edge tech. The supply chain is completely adjusted to delivering the parts needed, and everything is customized for ASML machinery. So without the machines, everything else ceases to exist.

With the rumoured problem with their N3 yields, I am sure Apple is hounding them to give them alternatives for the money they paid for N3.

So by your logic the screw industry only exists because ASML uses screws. The metal mining and machining industry exists because ASML uses metal and machines parts.

You should have stopped your comment at every industry (company) has a supply chain. No question mark. Because of this fact TSMC is no less or more relevant because it buys things from others for the normal operations of its business than ASML and any other business that buys things for its normal operations.

No, the 'special ASML screws' business exists because of ASML. That is what I said. It means that just the machines arent the whole deal. You also need a string of companies that are producing state of the art components - unique components at that.

Like Apple or anyone has other options. Better not to complain too much because there's a line of people happy to take their place.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
The US and EU better pull their heads out and use executive power to get nodes like this and nodes that can be radiation hardened up and running here before the power flips to China and Russia and we lose years trying to get these facilities up and running. But with the current dementia in chief and idiots running congress I doubt anything will happen since they are owned by China.

At this point, everyone should be rooting for Samsung to fix its manufacturing process. Intel already assumed that it can't keep up with TSMC when started manufacturing its GPU chips there.

Go Samsung!

Yeah! Much better to have a monopoly where only the 1% can afford their products!
