Won't solve it but cut off Russias money, cut of all possible supplies even luxury stuff like entertainment and any new electronics. If you isolate the country as much as possible it's going to really **** the people of that they may hopefully overthrow the pathetic dictator.

Sanctions have never overthrown a country. They Have, OTOH, made the lives of millions miserable and prevented media and companies from the west being able to influence citizens of these countries.

The onyl thing sanctions achieve, outside of bringing misery to millions, is allowing the two faced west to appear like its actually doing something to justify their own arrogance on the world stage. It's virtue signalling at an international level.

Watching all these bans from payment systems and stores, I see only one thing - hello, an increase in pirated software
maybe slightly but doubtful it would be significant, people who pirate software typically do so regardless of the closed off status of software.

what is your other option, let Putin and his oligarchs continue to rape and pillage the land and it's people (their own and Ukraine)?

in this case? Sell Cyberpunk with a ukrainian flag, put ukranian flag on GOG, it would all be better solutions. It would be the Russians to block it not us, it would serve better our cause with the Russian people.

In general terms, we had to sanction (sanction banks, money. Because stoping exports of coke or copies of CP77 is just being absurd), we had no choice, like you said not doing nothing was never an option. But it won't solve a thing and will probably make things worst. Those are two different things and you have to be aware of the consequences.

I think part of it has to do Russia being barred from SWIFT and credit card payments, making purchasing and payments almost impossible. Personally, I would say all sales coming from Russia or Belarus would go towards the Ukraine war effort but I'm not in charge of CD Projekt and rich people/corporations don't like giving away money they can't get a tax credit on.

On the piracy topic, Putin and co seem to have reverted piracy to privateering.
Probably doesn't extend to classical, video game piracy, but still...

That, plus give the target regime an impressive boost to its propaganda machine.
I suppose one could look less negatively at sanctions should they be accompanied with better expectation management and less self-delusion. At least then one could -to some degree- accept them as the lesser of two evils.

It's not virtue signaling ? Let's pretend for a second this statement is true ....

Where were all these companies you named when the USA violated the sovereignty of Serbia , Irak ( with completely made up documents at that being ) , Afghanistan , Uganda and Lybia just to name a few ? Did not the US bombard entire cities to the ground , killing hundreds of thousands if not millions of civilians in the proccess ? In comparison civilian casualties in Ukraine may aswell be not existent ( even though every life matters ) ! So what gives , were the lifes of those people less important than Ukrainian lifes or did these American companies ( most of them ) were blind and deaf back in the days because the agressor was their master ?

Everyone knows the answer to the question so please at the very least have some respect for the collective intellect if not for yours . If there is anyone on this planet that is by far the least in position to give lessons about bullying other nations that is the USA and the West in general . The cold truth you don't want to hear is , these companies are doing nothing more than serving and spreading American propaganda !
Serbia ?? You mean Yugoslavia that was mass murdering civilians and doing ethnic cleansing??? For 6 months of bombing over Belgrad 23 civilians lost their lives 16 of them in the government TV Tower , the person who did not informed intentionally the personel there to evacuate Dragoljub Milanovic was later senteced to 10 years in prison by the Serbs!!! The Russians killed twise that much only this morning in Kharkiv by intentionally targeting civilian areas with high power unguided FAB500 bombs and cluster bombs and rockets from their rocket artilerry and you won't see much of it on any TV sisnce it is too grim to show. Use Twitter and Telegram if you don't believe and use your brain to filter both Ukrainian and Russian propaganda and you will see the ukrainians don't need much of a propaganda since they are just being poundered by this old crazy dictator.

You might soon complain why the world did not stand up to protect Hitler when the US started bombing him. Go away with your basic marxist anti west propaganda.

Considering history of Russia and history of sanctions in general, certain nation... culture react strangely to sanctions.
Sometimes, isolation helps a leader consolidate power, as long as they can still provide basic sustenance to the general population.
Not saying it will happen in Russia, surely I hope that's not the case, but sanction works in mysterious way, and a nation push to the corner can potentially be quite dangerous.
This. Italian fascism reached its peak of popularity around the invasion of Ethiopia, when it was placed under sanctions by the United Kingom and other powers. I'm not really sure if this is actually what's going to happen in Russia, this whole "special military operation" affair looks a bit puzzling when compared to the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

To be honest I find this whole affair fairly disgusting, especially in view of the continued, illegal, occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem by Israel. The same people who are against the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement were all too happy to use the same tools on an unheard scale against Russia. Apparently if you take a kalashinkov to defend your land against Russia you're a hero, if you do it to defend it against Israeli occupiers who took away your houses you're a terrorist...

Russia is doing dispicable things, no defense. But it's always good to read this. I hope this conflit could change that, but that's never going to happen. And not because of politics, but because there is no push from the common people like there was here.

I would say China would get the same treatment as Russia. We all many others won't.

All these sanctions help shit.
It makes life harder for both sides. Why should I pay higher prices if my government decides not to buy Russia oil?

It's not virtue signaling ? Let's pretend for a second this statement is true ....
Do you aspire to make statements that are as meritless as possible? Example...
Where were all these companies you named when the USA violated the sovereignty of Serbia , Iraq ( with completely made up documents at that being ) , Afghanistan , Uganda and Lybia just to name a few ?
All but one of the nations you just named was actively involve in terrorist activities aimed at either us or our allies. There is a HUGE difference between defense and offense. You need to brush up on the context of those points. (learn how to spell)
Did not the US bombard entire cities to the ground , killing hundreds of thousands if not millions of civilians in the process ?
Another example of meritless drivel. (again, learn how to spell)
Everyone knows the answer to the question so please at the very least have some respect for the collective intellect if not for yours .
Take your own advice and quit with the disinformation. You're embarrassing yourself.

It's only virtue signalling if they actually continue to do business while pretending otherwise for the sake of publicity.
Do you have a proof that's the case?
This. We both know they don't. GOG is not a company that fails to follow through. They make mistakes from time to time, but they get the job done at the end of the day.

CDPR is being review bombed because if this now.
And there is benefit to this. GOG now knows who the pathetic morons are and can ban them. Good for GOG!

For as much as Americans and people that blindly worship them don't want to admit, the US should have been sanctioned and isn't much better. The insanely long list of coups in other countries is a disgrace for their story, including Iran, that disaster of all disasters.

But the invasion of Iraq isn't much better then this. Or the drone strikes scandal, the leaks from the whistleblower Daniel Hale when you bombed inocent civiliants, you knew you were bombing inocent civilians and coudn't care less to get some dude that may or may not be there, may or may not have done something. Those are war crimes.

Don't man. Russia is as bad as they came, but so is the US. They aren't much different in fact.

You can trash talk my English, i'm fine with it.

I generally find sanctions pointless. If you observed nations slapped with sanctions in the past, none of it had much of an impact on them. And I don’t recall most of them actually turned around. This cane have been used too often, and highly predictable. So for Russia, they would have already known and prepared themselves against these retaliations. At least the people the leaders and influential people would be prepared. So that leaves the citizens that may not support nor have a say about this invasion that suffers.
Ultimately, any sanctions will hurt the world because of how interconnected and interdependent we are nowadays. For example, just by virtue of not buying Russian oil is enough to increase oil and thus, power prices up substantially. So everyone in the world will feel the effects and with the poor suffering the most.
Sanctions are not pointless. Yes, there is blowback but ultimately it deprives the target country of amenities which makes life uncomfortable. It has been said but the Russian people have a choice (those who are informed that is): Get used to living with the loss of amenities and continue with "special military actions" or do something about the leadership and stop invading sovereign nations. Hurrah to CD Projekt for understanding and supporting this and supporting the Ukranian people.
