Intel Plans May-June 2022 Launches of Arc "Alchemist" Desktop Graphics Cards

I wouldn't bother listening to those rumors. That would be a hard sell to gamers, considering the current (and future?) lack of good AAA games that anyone is interested in. And when cryptocurrency gets revealed to be the scam it is and interest dies off, Nvidia is in trouble.

If next-gen cards are released before the crypto bubble pops, those speculative prices might be fairly accurate. The demand curve for miners is pretty much a vertical line; initial pricing will be set at their levels.

If a card starts with a low MSRP, and then increases, people grumble about how the cards are overpriced. But if a card starts with a high MSRP, and then decreases, people feel like they're getting a deal. It's in the manufacturers' best interests to start high.

They weren't rumours but info from sources in the industry. Sure they might be bogus, but not many people disagree next gen hardware will be much dearer. The card makers will argue if you are getting 100%+ performance increase you should pay. You just move down a tier, so if you were gaming on a 3080, youy would now get the 4070 which will be a stronger card. Put it this way if the 4070 can offer 4K 60fps+ with RT and no DLSS in AAA titles, is it a rip-off if it's same price as a 3080 now. Heck by the time the next next gen roll out 5060 will be able to thrash a 3080 in 4K.

If RT isn't something you care about stick with Ampere which they'll continue to make for a long time alongside Lovelace.

I guess we're redifining how the market works because that's NOT how it happened in the past or how it is supposed to happen - moore law and all.

You're supposed to get more performance for the same price, not just shift price tiers around so now you fit in the lower end product. This arguably started with Turing and was AMPLIFIED as fuck during the current shortages but it can't last forever - otherwise people will just flock to consoles and laptops until manufacturers get the message.

Heck with mining coming to an end soon™ (and gpu prices already falling) they'll have a hard time selling the new stuff at insane prices if there aren't shortage pressures on the market (just like in the previous mining bust)

Welcome to the brave expensive new world. They're doing it because people have shown they will pay absurd prices and we don't have enough competition. Crypto miners don't care about price at all, unless crypto crashes big time the manufacturers can charge what they want, they are selling every card they want even at today's absurd prices. Also each new node shrink is costing more and TSMC is raising prices. They have us over a barrel.

Hopefully this is true and finally we might see competition renewed.

i bet the delays are cause by drivers, not harware
The best way to find out is to watch the Linux kernel patches. Intel basically always sends their stuff to the Kernel devs before you ever see it on Window

The most stupid is people just buy these overpriced GPU's......
Yeah! That's what I'm saying.
+1
People always commenting with what they think is wrong with the industry. When in fact, everything is A-OK. Companies making millions selling overpriced GPUs and peeps be smiling with their pixel pumping RTX cards! The way I see it, everyone's a winner. Only losers are us forum users complaining about overpriced cards!
Oh yes, and we like to knock Intel for trying to make the situation better by introducing competition. ;)

Everything is as it should be.
