SilverStone Intros Shark Force 160 ARGB Fan

SilverStone today introduced the Shark Force 160 ARGB case fan. As its name suggests, this is a 160 mm diameter fan, but it also offers a maximum air-flow of 160 CFM. The fan is designed such that the impeller's diameter is 160 mm, but the frame itself can be mounted in 140 mm vents, provided there's enough clearance around them for a larger frame than what 140 mm fans typically come with.

The Shark Force 160 ARGB features a fluid-dynamic bearing, and turns at speeds of up to 1,600 RPM, pushing up to 160 CFM of airflow, at up to 2.21 mm H₂O static-pressure, and up to 38.1 dBA noise output. It takes in a 4-pin PWM connector for its main function, and 3-pin ARGB for its lighting, which consists of ARGB LEDs studded in the hub. The fan measures 160 mm x 160 mm x 25 mm, weighing 220 g. The company didn't reveal pricing.

That is pretty loud for 1600rpm, but the airflow is really nice. Now they need to make 160mm fans with higher static pressure.

As nice as these fans look to be, when cases already cover part of the space of a regular 140mm because of the 120mm mounts it's kind of a waste to go for this weird form factors. I love it but it's really dependent on the case you're using to make sense to use fans like this.

Still gotta give it to Silverstone for yet again taking the risk and going for something different!

Who buy all this fans, nearly a release of a new one a week?,

I have fans from nanoxia and coolink but all are about 2-6 years old and still works well.

38 db? Too bad... I don't settle for anything above 15db. A fan's loudness is exponentially increased when installed in a case, so 38db might as well be 40db+ when installed.

And I'm willing to bet this doesn't even have Matsushita/Panasonic licensed FDB and instead some fake FDB sleeve bearing garbo.

I like the mounting design and overall size, but the noise is pretty high. I'm not sure how it is adjusted for taking into account the CFM as I haven't really compared fans in ages. I wouldn't mind a fan like this on my tower cooler though if the slightly larger 160mm rather than 140mm would get bet better cooling that's a pretty significant perk I'd say. I'll have to keep a eye out for some of these new hybrid 160mm fans with 140mm mounting ears.

The fan blades have shark skin-like pattern on them so that was our inspiration for the name!

We are very honest with our noise rating and 38dBA is its maximum noise, which is very good for a fan pushing 160 CFM airflow. Please also keep in mind that we've implemented an advanced PWM control that is capable of letting you adjust fan speed gradually from 0 up to 1600RPM. So you can certainly tune it to run at 15dBA with still good amount of airflow. You can check out this fan's fan speed curve chart at our website:

It hurts to see that you doubt us on the use of genuine FDB! We hated seeing other fan brands selling fans with fake FDB ourselves too! In fact, we call them out years ago with Hardware Secrets doing an article on it:

Understandably, Hardware Secrets wanted to be neutral about the topic and presented the article with argument from manufacturers not using Matsushita/Panasonic licensed FDB. We weren't happy about this but glad you think the same we do!
