Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne, are pleased to announce that they will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne video games in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games. The relationship between Remedy and Rockstar Games dates back to the original release of the critically acclaimed Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne games, developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar Games. Both games left an indelible mark in popular culture, lauded for their neo-noir atmosphere, groundbreaking storytelling and "bullet-time" gunplay.

"We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games "We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can't wait to play these new versions." "Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same," said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. "We're hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways."

Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine. The game's development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production. Under the agreement, Remedy has a royalty opportunity after Rockstar Games has recouped its development, marketing, and other costs for distributing and publishing the game.

The project is currently in the concept development stage.

Sign me the F up... My fav thing about Control was the destruction tbh. Max Payne in a prettier version of that engine with a rundown traumatized detective to who narrates to himself while in bullet time, I can tango with that for sure.

I have Max payne 1 and 2, but barely played them. Guess i will finally get around to playing them this week/weekend. That's good to know they are remaking/remastering them.

Now all we need is NFS 1, nfs 2, nfs 3, and nfs high stacks and porshe unreleased remake from EA, but i don't think they're listening to the community.

I hope it does not end up like GTA definitive edition otherwise it will cause alot of payne to the fans.

It's said to be a Remake, not a Remaster.

I have all classic nfs games install on my computer. NFS 3 hot pursuit is my favorite, but all of them have some cool music. These new nfs games are awful compared to the older ones. Again, i wish they made remasters or remakes of them. Would love to see part 1 and 2 with newer graphics, etc.

Difference of opinion, but the remasterers gta games are amazing, feels like a whole new experience compared to the classic ones to me. But that's just my opinion.

Actually remake and remaster are both different but lets see what remedy is upto

Exactly my point. As most remakes end up in remasters. If you had fun with MP 1 and 2. You would realise that it would take ages to remake those games and cinematic. Remake will be something different from the original and part out eventually. I dont think someone would do that to their original content.

Well kinda like with Mafia1, that was a remake and a damn good job of it.

What's old is new again...

The good - it's Remedy so the odds of it being proper remake are very good. They're using the same engine that was used for Control, so it will look great.
The bad - Rockstar's dirty paws, they'll probably force some sort of Max Payne Online on us, knowing them. Apart from that it's not a new IP, not even a new story. I'd rather see something new instead of rehashed ideas.

This could be one of the better showcases for RTRT, but I'd play it even if it wasn't.

This. I really hope the Noir quality of the series is being preserved. Gameplay wise, just update this, smoothen out some animations/controls and keep similar responsiveness.

Poor sales if this is gonna land on the rockstar launcher only.

Also the games don't need a remaster at all, the work perfectly fine on modern system, but i guess it's nice for people with retro graphics allergies.

It may not need a remaster (remake, actually), but between indoor lighting, Molotov cocktails and even muzzle flashes, there's a lot modern graphics can unearth.

Like having an actual facial animation instead of a texture swap.

That's what makes those old games charming to look at, but that's just me.

Like you said, if that's what you fancy, you can just play the original. This remake is for those that want to try a new take on those games. Doesn't automatically mean it will be better, and a big chunk of that is definitely about how nostalgia works for you. Best case scenario, a bunch of new kids get introduced to a great experience they missed before.

I'll keep my fond memories of Max Payne and Max Payne 2 - I won't tarnish those memories with something Rockstar touches. No thanks.

Childhood memories, played this at Geforce2 or had I another card? Not sure. And then based around the same kung fu game fights, Enter the matrix.

I am guessing a remaster here, better textures to run on those 21:9 ultrawide monitors these days :)
