But the whole idea is to get more performance for the same wattage with new generations otherwise we would just continue to fall backwards because games will continue to require more performance and more resources in the future and that's always been true.

Granted the 4XXX series is looking like a power hog unless the performance warrants it. We will see.
I have always assumed if no more powerful hardware was on the horizon then games wouldnt need more grunt, devs just code for whats out there.

If the devs don't push it we would not need new hardware all the time. Sometimes i wonder if the games devs and hardware makers aren't in cahoots to push gamers into buying newer hardware all the time, by making newer games harder to run but hey there is a new GPU coming that will run it fine. It makes sense if you are the GPU makers and game devs to do it. If game never got any harder to run why would anyone ever need a more powerful GPU.

More photo-realistic game graphics requires more transistors, even though everything can be a conspiracy and by using technologies such as Unlimited Detail, there is actually no need for so many transistors, to begin with..

Better graphics is what gamers constantly demand. I don't know if you spend much time on gaming sites but gamers incessantly complain about graphics not being adequate or look outdated and push and push for more. Developers are just responding to the demands. They want to sell more games. For me, my number one concern is that a game is fun to play. Graphics is secondary but I'm definitely in the minority.

If you look at hardware that people use that don't game at all or rarely then you will see the same thing. The constant push for faster CPUs, faster RAM, faster and larger SSDs etc.

My lord, 420W?!

This is going way out of bound in my book. I've been buying the x80 nv cards since the 980 because of their awesome efficiency and manageable overall power consumption. I guess I'll have to make do with x70 or even x60 card (or moving to AMD) in my next upgrade if I don't want another radiator in my room.

Somebody from gov should regulate this nonsense. This is getting ridiculous. A GPU that consumes more then a standard PSU from a couple of years ago..
how why? the top device todaty still is the 2017 switch that is about 70% weaker then the ps4 form 2013... if you have a 2k monitotr... EVEN if you ignore dlss or fsr,,, 2k is nothing now... the 2017 xbox one x a all in one pc can do some amazing stuff .... if your worried about somthing bad... dont buy it... if you have to have 100+ frames at2-4k ultra then i gusss... u realise the 4-500 dollar all in one pc consoles form 2020 are kinda amazing... esp with 2k in mind,,,

soo dont cry about power usage or realize then next gen pcs can run games at 1080p(12 year old tech) like butter when a gpu can do 2k with ton and tons of headroom.. the 4080 is expected to be 7 to 9 time's more powerful then the ps5.... before you cry or comment go look or but the demon souls remake... and see how while small scale is breathtaking on old low end tech can do.. if yourok and UNDERSTAND ppi 2k is kinda good enough for billions
