Intel is set to launch its 13th generation Raptor Lake processor lineup for desktop users sometime in September or October. However, the market is already supplied with early-stage engineering samples of Raptor Lake-S SKUs used for testing and software optimization. Today, we have the first listing of the upcoming flagship Intel Core i9-13900K processor with eight P-cores and 16 E-Cores on the CPU. The anonymous seller claims that the CPU is working with ASUS Z690 ROG Apex motherboards, boots up, and can be overclocked, which means that this is one of the newer engineering sample revisions. The sample was listed for 2850 Chinese Yuan, translating to about 426 USD. This price should be close to the final MSRP, and the CPU is already sold.

What is interesting is the appearance of this CPU on the black market way ahead of the launch. We can expect to see more details emerge as we get closer to the launch time later this year.

So what if they do, Z690 is all they have atm. I'll bet that RL is optimised for Z790.
It would be insane and extremely anti consumer to have socket compatibility but inferior performance on the older so no, thats not how this will go.
Z790 might have more features, like more advanced usb or stuff like that but raw performance will be the same

also its as if everyone was born yesterday....have LTT and GN among otehrs not made videos about this? early samples like this always end up on the black market, the problem is that with early test stepping etc these wont preform as good as the actual consumer chips...but this is nothing new nor special.

My theories:

Primis:
The buyer received a brick or maybe an Alder Lake ES with modified ID. If he got anything at all.

Secundo:
Its just another deliberate leak. We se it more and more and the free publicity alone would be worth it. There are several other major benefits and no downsides as far as I can see. Nothing worth mentioning.

The price is more than a little suspicious. If it seems too good to be true etc....

Thats bs. Maybe at stock the results can be different, but OC results must be the same, this has been proven time and time again.
Can't wait for the 4 months ahead of launch benchmarks again.

I personally hope you're right, but this is intel we're talking about. They need to sell the next chipset, as well as the new cpu gen. For z790, it looks like it may have some advanced voltage regulation on z790. So there could be a performance difference between the chipset on the same cpu. Google - digital linear voltage regulator (DLVR)

Might also be a disgruntled employee wanting to cause trouble for his employer, this would explain the low price - it's not about gains but rather the harm caused.
I guess it's probably a scam, no shortage of those before every launch. Marketing scams (i. e. "leaks") usually try to sell to a media outlet in order to maximize publicity.

It might be a scam from the perspective that when the buyer purchases the CPU, the seller might send them something else, yes! But I can confirm for everyone here that Raptor Lake engineering samples are out in the world. know this because I have held multiple of them and tested many of them. (For my job) If you work for a company that partners with Intel or AMD, getting samples by the tray load is not uncommon.

What sux is eventually companies like AMD, Intel, etc.. will make it harder to obtain early samples if this keeps happening. Which will delay development on product that uses them, and either those development companies will need to wait closer to launch or wait until they launch to start their development. (Pending their relationship to Intel or AMD)

I would suspect that this CPU was probably precured by a smaller PC development house, who don't monitor their NDA samples very well, and an employee stole it, and is now selling it. I bet it is less personal towards intel then a lot people think

Can't wait for the i9-19900KS with 8P and 1024 e-core.
Simple me, just waiting for 10P and whatever/no E. This is literally the reason I will be keeping an eye on the next Zen with 3D cache.

Well given even Zen 3 runs only a few % slower on ancient Zen 1 MB's, why would you assume RL would be much worse on Z6xxx MB's?

Meteor Lake is still going to be 8P cores too, but maybe 24 E cores in 14900K. I'm not sure if Arrow Lake is sticking to that, but they are apparently hitting 48 cores total in max configuration.
