The issue with laptops is that you need a table and a mouse to have proper PC controls otherwise it’s just downright worse than the Steam Deck which has a good controller. Also I will often not take my laptop with me while steam deck is a non issue, I can use it everywhere. That’s literally the point of a portable console, doing things laptops and PCs can’t.Steam deck is already heavy enough to require a dedicated bag - why not bump your carry weight an additional pound, and make your way up to 12-13 inch ultra-portable (complete wit a much more functional screen, hardware keyboard, and none of the decks massive cooling issues?)
you're also glossing over the largest detail : not everyone liked the Steam Controller (and instead of just having hardware d-pads like everyone else including the switch, you're still stuck with abomination!) there's a huge amount of compromise for something that needs to be easy to get sales!
