In a sign that NVIDIA board partners are getting desperate to clear inventory of their high-end GeForce RTX 30-series "Ampere" graphics cards to make way for the next-generation, EVGA momentarily offered its premium custom-design GeForce RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 graphics card at nearly half its original price. The company listed the RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 at $1,149, a $1,000 "instant discount" from its $2,149 original list price, which is nearly $1,500 down from the card's street price before the crypto-mining crash of Q2-2022.

This could have been a one-off discount, as the other RTX 3090 Ti cards from the company's lineup are priced slightly higher, with the faster FTW3 Ultra priced at $1,199; and the FTW3 Black at $1,399. Prices of high-end graphics cards have been in free-fall for the past couple of months, with the Radeon RX 6900 XT frequently spotted under $1,000; and the RX 6950 XT oscillating around the $1,000-mark. The likes of the RTX 3080 Ti can also be had around this price; while the RTX 3080 is now firmly under $1,000, sometimes spotted near its launch price of $699.

That actually seems like a reasonable price for a top end card. But still not a reasonable price for a top end card that's been in the market for a while already and about to be phased out...

Hasn't there been a Zotac 3090ti for $999 for like a month or longer? Maybe its the plain jane 3090. Eh, i forget. Either way I'm not biting.

If rumors are true and or NVIDIA follows the same trend year after year. This 3090 Ti will match the RTX 4070 (Ti). That card will probably be $699 with 8GB. So unless you need 24GB, wait a few months and save a good amount of money.

I know the EVGA 3090 had memory issues because of lack of cooling on the back. No idea about the EVGA 3090 Ti though

this doesn’t make sense to me. If you saturate market with cheap 3080/3090s, how can you expect that customers will buy the new gen of graphic cards next month?

It'll end up being either a paper launch or pushed back is my theory. Probably the former then the latter knowing ngreedia hahaha!

FWIW I was worried about memory temps when I got the card but they've been solid with no modding required.

so painful that 1100+ dollars is half.....and the fact that they can just do this shows what crazy margin they have enjoyed all this time....oh fellow consumers, what are you bringing upon us.

this doesn’t make sense to me. If you saturate market with cheap 3080/3090s, how can you expect that customers will buy the new gen of graphic cards next month?

Think of it in a different way, when the next gen comes out these cards will be borderline unsellable by stores and will be competing it themselves which they wont want so its better to get them out now then idk destroy the inventory?

The customers who are going to buy the next gen either already have these cards or skipped them intentionally for the most, there wont be any saturation here, just the last bit of profit.

And like I said....1100 dollars, 50% off and still they will be making a healthy profit...what a scam so many happily walked in on.

Because if the new 70 matches the old 90 at half the wattage and with better RT perf, which is a reasonable expectation considering the average generational jumps, you're gonna have trouble selling the 90 even at 700$, so it's better to clear the inventory ASAP while you can charge more. There's plenty of high end buyers (and let's face it, 700$ is high end regardless of inflation because the wage growth is not there anywhere on the planet) who are simply not interested in 3000 series anymore + the media are good at telegraphing that 4000 is just around the corner.

Just for gaming it is indeed still questionable, but if you need the giant memory buffer, this is now a flat-out great deal.

The Eldin Ring problems brought attention to a small defect to a batch or two of the cards. Problem fixed since then. Those returns/open boxes cards are likely those that were repairable.

most gamers dont have a need for these super cards anyway.. as a 1440p gamer i certainly dont.. a 3070 card is fine for me..

not having a need dosnt normally stop me buying stuff but the power consumption and heat generation will in this case..

"(...)while the RTX 3080 is now firmly under $1,000, sometimes spotted near its launch price of $699." <-- THIS!!! Why is an almost 2yo card still going above it's MSRP? And yet manufacturers wonder, why they can't sell their products?

As for EVGA - wanna sell Your cards? How about finally start shipping them to Europe then? Their EU shops still show the queue system and no cards in stock. The prices are also above MSRP and it's without the VAT tax, so add another ~20% to that.

EVGA is an American company and not that large compared with others in the field at that. North America has always been and always will be their primary market. It's not their fault Europe doesn't have a single company producing gpus that's actually worth a damn (I think Club3d was (or maybe still is, who knows :p) European, but they were marginal players at best).

So? EVGA have 3 different online shops just for EU countries (for Germany, France and a general one for the rest).

Poor little manufacturers complain that they can't empty their warehouses, when for the last 2 years they've been selling thousands of GPUs directly to crypto mines and now those same cards came back as used for a lower price, cannibalizing their sales.
