Vista Continues to Gain Market Share

Despite its criticisms, Microsoft's latest operating system is gradually becoming more popular, with XP's market share now falling below 80%. In September the market share of Vista-based computers being used to browse the net rose to 7.38%, up by over one percent from the previous month, with Windows XP's market share falling by 1.16% to 79.32%. If Vista use continues to grow at this rate then it should account for over 10% of the market by December. Use of Mac operating systems also saw a rise, although it was less substantial than that of Vista, increasing from 6.15% to 6.61%.

Im guessing more and more companies are extolling the virtues of Vista and more people are becoming comfortable with the OS.

id guess vendors are bundling it with system for cheaper than XP, Xp 64bit retail costs more than any version of vista.

I like Vista. It has a few quirks, but nothing like XP before SP1 came out.

i like vista i just wish it was easier on your system and there was as much control over internal windows services and all the crap that bloats up your ram as there is for anything you try to run or install thats not made by microsoft

it is only because you cant buy a new computer now without vista already on it so your forced to use it.

a more interesting note is if you figure how many new computers are sold since they all come with the vista OS pre installed and how many people went out and bought xp anyway so they arent using the vista OS they came with.

the only thing happening is less and less people are willing to buy another OS to replace vista, it's not because they actually like vista its mainly because they dont want to spend the money to switch.

That's never going to happen.

You're going to have to buy a new PC.. or at least a new CPU.

Just like newer games take more out of your system, so will an OS. You can't expect Crysis to be faster than Far Cry on the same hardware, right?

Actually, recently it was announced that Microsoft is letting people buy XP with their new computers.

...which the average user won't do, because they know nothing about it. Vista will get its larger share, regardless of whether anyone wants it or not. Microsoft will make sure of it.

Like someone said before, though, it's not that Vista's a bad OS -- it's probably one of the best that Microsoft has ever made. But, it's bloated, forces users to buy new hardware, and there's far too much going on in the background that the user doesn't know about.
