Wow...I mean I remember when the highest end MSI boards were well below $500 and came with crazy features. I mean $249 is not killing me but still seems high and $1299 must be a joke. I know that's not not new (IE over $1000 for a top of the line motherboard) but I still find it ridiculous.

Yeah, they famously dirt cheap z690 boards. Wait... you'll need a z790 now. Good thing Intel's well known for their socket longevity.

By the time you add 15% GST + Geographical tax of being in New Zealand, those boards are TOTALLY unaffordable.

Of those 4 I'd go for the Carbon - which in NZ would cost about NZ$950-$960. That is what Current gen "Godlike" boards cost, and that's what a Mid-Tier board now costs... WTF!

Yeah, they famously dirt cheap z690 boards.
Cheapest MSI Z690 is currently $100 cheaper then the cheapest MSI board in the opening post + supports DDR4 which saves you another $60-70 on top of that. Obviously not dirt cheap but almost half the price all things considered
Wait... you'll need a z790 now. Good thing Intel's well known for their socket longevity.
Raptor Lake is the same socket, you just need a bios update for Z690 (you can either get a motherboard that allow USB bios flash or go through a brick n motar that does a loaner, my local store is going to lend out the celeron G6900 as it's loaner for bios updates)

I've stated it was going to be double the price of my X570 motherboard.

I've stated that THIS IS HOW THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE THEIR MONEY OFF IF THEIR MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET INSTEAD OF THE CPU.

When people STOP making Dr. Lisa Su the second coming of Christ is when THIS TYPE OF GOUGING STOPS FOR AMD.

This is why I updated as I did. I KNEW YOUR PRICE, PERFOMANCE, AND WATTAGE USAGE WERE ON CRACK.

I stand my comment(s) here as well as other sites. I have been vindicated by the research of the information found.

I will not buy this nonsense, because... WAIT TO YOU SEE THE COST OF THE "B" SERIES OF MOTHERBOARDS.

Price gouging by AMD. If Intel gives me a lesser price for equal performance/wattage I'll upgrade towards intel.

INCREDIBLY STUPID for these prices... at a time where we are in a recession, we are are also in a energy crisis globally.

What is this, the Turing of motherboard generations?

Prices shown here are untenable, hopefully other mobo manufacturers bring lower prices.

If this is MSI's final position on pricing then this opens up a serious opportunity for AsRock, Gigabyte and even Biostar to make headway and try to secure a substantial loyal following. MSI wants to be seen as a premium board manufacturer, I get it, but that needs to be reflected in the product and the price. If the product is no better than other vendors and the price is considerably more then they've priced themselves out of this generation and possibly future generations.

It used to be that you got an extensive improvement in performance with an upgrade. This is not that much besides a few epeen
numbers on the test bench. Too much power to drive the CPU & GPU nowadays. Too much heat produced. On top of that, I
don't even see any true PC games in the future. All my PC's, no matter how near Retro they are, are plenty fast enough. Motherboards
that need this great amount of adjustments to control and reduce the power and heat involved. What's the point?

I don't think AMD would be happy with the MSI board pricing. That's a stretch.

Guessing this is a side effect of AMD giving consumers 3-4 cpu upgrades in socket...... Basically paying the price of two semi decent motherboards upfront going with the Carbon vs X570/Z690 pricing

Probably should ignore naming though to me it looks like the Ace is replacing the old Godlike in the X570 lineup and the Carbon is replacing the old Ace.... Both being overpriced still imo.

That’s crazy. The market for these boards must be tiny. The real world performance difference between a computer with a $150 motherboard and a $1200 motherboard is a few %

There are loads of spoiled rich kids out there who  to burn their cash after watching their favourite sponsored review shill. Even if it's just for ePeen in the forums signatures, lol.

They wouldn't produce if it doesn't sell. Period.

Hi,
Not really surprising
Last somewhat affordable mother boards were z490
After that they all got steadily stupid priced.

WTaF. Is this a joke. These prices will be 60-70% higher elsewhere, so $500 for entry level in Australia and going over $1100 for the Ace for sure.

If they all do this AMD is screwed, people will flee to Intel en masse, hell even I will get Raptor Lake unless Z790 is also stupidly priced too.

Sure there is a fair bit of that on TPU

What I  about TPU is their unobtrusive "System Specs" dropdown feature.

That way you don't have spammy signatures, turning pages into a wall of ePeen advertisements like on the other forums.

I wonder what the MAG explosives themed lineup will be priced at? They seem to have been decent midrange boards the past couple of releases. Tomahawk B650 could be something to look out for in a couple months.

I think it really depends on how you see it. In my observation, good Z690 with DDR5 support is not that cheap at launch. It may be cheaper over time, but ideally we should be comparing launch day price. I also believe that Z790 boards will get more expensive for features like PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slots, and beefier VRMs for higher peak power draw.

Another point to consider is the socket longevity. Z690 will support up to Raptor Lake, before the curtain comes down on it. So while you pay less for the Z690 board, you will need to buy a brand new board if you want to upgrade. If you are one that don’t upgrade your com regularly, then this is a none issue. But I suspect that motherboard makers are charging more for AMD boards with the backward compatibility being one of the main driver. Like someone bought a X470/ B450 board a few years back and subsequently upgrade to a Zen 3 processor, and the likes of MSI won’t make a single extra cent in this case.
