Microsoft Releases New Update for Windows Vista

Microsoft yesterday released a new hotfix, KB941649, which improves the compatibility, reliability, and stability of Windows Vista. This update includes the following improvements:

It extends the battery life for mobile devices.
It improves the stability of portable computers and of desktop computers that use an uninterruptable power supply (UPS).
It improves the reliability of Windows Vista when you open the menu of a startup application.
It improves the stability of Internet Explorer when you open a Web page.
It improves the stability of wireless network services.
It shortens the startup time of Windows Vista by using a better timing structure.
It shortens the recovery time after Windows Vista experiences a period of inactivity.
It shortens the recovery time when you try to exit the Photos screen saver.
It improves the stability of Windows PowerShell.

Oh, nasty, what a lot of "reliability" and "stability" issues. I'll stick with 2003 a little longer.

Does anyone know if these changes are system code/kernel, display or driver fixes?

whats nice is, with each new hotfix, it seems to be taking care of alot of the complaints current vista customers have.

Interesting....I thought SP1 were going to have some of these fixes...maybe they decided people needed it now.

Download with caution!

this update caused my x64 vista home premium to not be able to boot up.

I had to load install dvd and use its repair function to fix it.

I installed the update, shutdown normally, let it install update, then when it tried to reboot i just get a continuous stuttering loading bar.

It may work for others, but all it did for me was crash my system
