LG Display Said to Start Producing 27-Inch W-OLED Panels This Month

Due to a slowdown in demand for W-OLED TVs, LG Display is said to be kicking off production of 27-inch W-OLED panels later this month, assuming everything goes to plan. This is admittedly based on rumours from Chinese site WeiXin QQ, so it should be taken with some caution. The site claims that the news comes via the Korean media, but we haven't managed to find a Korean source that could corroborate such a claim. The report is quite thin on details, so it's unknown what resolution these 27-inch panels will offer. Apparently 32-inch panels are also an option, as well as 40-inch panels for TVs.

The first customer for the 27-inch panels is unsurprisingly said to be LG Electronics, who is expected to launch a 27-inch gaming monitor based on the W-OLED panel sometime in early 2023. In related news, LG Display is betting on an improvement in the OLED TV market space in 2023, with the company said to be planning to manufacture no less than 9.2 million large sized OLED panels next year. Samsung is also said to be considering using LG Display's W-OLED panels in some of its products next year, but this has been a long time rumour that has not come to fruition so far.

One thing is certain (or two), they won't be cheap, but damn do they look nice. 27-32" sounds like a mainstream OLED move into PC monitor territory, there's mostly OLEDs for professional uses right now that are ridiculously expensive. I personally see no point in using a large OLED screen as a monitor unless you're sitting a few meters from it.

When you have to tread super carefully to utilize a daily workspace (that doesn't initiate life-saving technics, etc.), and on the side some entertainment, look at something else to invest in.

That "awe-inspiring" moment is super short when reality hits! e.g. awful coating, etc.

Finally a simple 27-32" 16:9 or 16:10 inch 120+Hz OLED screen. I think something around 850$ can be achieved if the current, big, freesync Alienware WD-OLED is 1000$
I'm surprised it took that much time for them to realize it's something to launch in place of those curved screens, are they really selling a lot of them ?

It's going to be very expensive and they'd have to wait for PCs to get to the point where a 4k 120hz oled makes sense for the mass market.

Ultrawides do sell well, but they are a premium screen. 27 4k 144hz monitors haven't been selling as well and can cost even more than an ultrawide. LGs own 27 LED 4k 144hz HDR monitor sells for 899 MSRP, so you can bet the OLED will be more. Other LEDs 27 4k 144hz options can cost well over a grand. These are the sort of options where "if you have to ask and cannot afford a 4090 it's not for you".

Agree -- I've had one of those and now just have a Gigabyte M32U that I got on sale, and the "normal", flat displays really are my favorites. The 32" IPS 4k and 48" 16:9 OLED are my two favorite displays.

I did try to directly navigate the site by Googling "daily hankooki", clicking on the link to it, and translating from the home page of the site, but the site was not easy to use. I ended up opening another article talking about LG, looking for what category of news that article was in, opening that link to the category page, and scrolled down looking for the article talking about the 27" LG OLED which was luckily under the same category.

I thought maybe the above was too complicated, so I came up with an easier method in my previous post.

I actually missed they had a source. Even so, not exactly a site I can navigate.
For Korean stuff, I normally check this site, as they cover Korean tech news in English and are normally on the ball when it comes to things like this, but there's no mention of it.

I think most people use the monitor at about arm's length from the face. So yeah, 32" is too big to be comfortable to look at.

WOLED uses an extra white subpixel to boost brightness in addition to RGB color filters. RGB OLED uses red, green and blue emitting subpixels.

My analysis would be that a 32" ultra widescreen monitor give a good price range for OLED monitors that are "mass" produced for once. This 27-32" panel is going to be mass produced this is the major parameters that defines the price here, if you look at TVs, since they sell a lot more (and smart TV use your personal data a lot so that helps too) a 55" OLED LG C2 cost less than much more mediocre monitors.

The alienware ultra wide, without Gsync ultimate will officially cost 1000-1100$ (november it releases I think)


I am definitely willing to invest 800-1000$ in a good monitor, something I use a lot from Work from home to gaming, but for now I stay on my 300$ 1440p with poor constrast and light bleed until viable mini-led (with a lot of local dimming zones) or oled are there. I just want more "classic" options than the ultra wides.

There are W-OLED TVs with 120HZ panels/ HbbTV / ALLM / VRR /AMD FreeSync, like Philips 55OLED706 starting at $849.
Can't you cut four 27" 16:9 1080p panels from a 55" 4K one?
I sure would love a relatively cheap (≤$299) 1080p OLED 120/144Hz gaming monitor!

There is no need to stop with the 27" monitors... that is my preferred size as I typically like the 3 monitor setup.

32" is way too big for a standard desk distance. Would be great to see 29-30" monitors, though I find my 27" a bit too big for browsing as it is, but it's great for gaming with a controller as I can sit a bit farther.
