Gelid Solutions today announced the release of the Polar 2, a silent 75 mm frameless cooler with the intelligent GELID PWM (Pulse Width Module) control. The POLAR 2 is a compact heat sink designed for mini ITX, micro ATX, ATX. At a height of just 42 mm it will fit most slim low profile cases. The POLAR also has an improved heatsink fin configuration to achieve high cooling performance in a compact design. The cooler weighs only 205 g.

A silent PWM frameless cooler with the intelligent GELID PWM (Pulse Width Module) control was chosen to be integrated into the heat sink. The fan blades were optimized to have a fan speed of min. 1400 rpm to guarantee high airflow. The intelligent GELID PWM control keeps the fan silent while accelerating the fan speed whenever additional cooling is needed. The multi-award winning high performance GC-Extreme thermal compound already pre-applied on to the heatsink. The POLAR is compatible with Intel CPU sockets such as LGA 1700, 1200, 1156, 1155 and 1150 with TDP 80 W.

The Polar 2 conforms to both RoHS, CE and FCC and carries a 5 year warranty.

"A low profile compact cooler designed to optimize user experience by creating minimal noise while providing excellent performance under load " said Gebhard Scherrer, Sales Director of GELID Solutions Ltd.

The Polar 2 has a MSRP of 17 USD or 17 Euro. For more information, visit the product page.

I don't get the idea of these. Intel LGA1700 stock cooler has a copper core and it's only 5mm taller, and the older 115x/1200 coolers have similar weight; yet some of those have also a copper core.

It's a cheap piece of shit that costs very little to distribute and takes up very little inventory space. They sell because sometimes someone needs a replacement cooler for that five-year-old i3 and they don't care about anything other than making it work.

Those in the know will just get something better, but this thing's USP is "highest number of CPU coolers in a shipping container" and it ticks some retailer boxes.

Still find this weird as it's probably cheaper to just get a new stock cooler from ebay or a PC dealer. But who am I to judge if a manufacturer wants to make a stupid product. :D

These are also targeted to bulk buyers for office use / repair centers that need to replace worn out units or refurbish a working PC. Some of these businesses need to provide a proper (store/retailer bought, not third party) invoice and are prohibited from getting second hand units.

What a great replacement when it's worse than the stock cooler it's meant to replace in a scenario like that.
