be quiet!, the German manufacturer for premium PC components, is today releasing its 12VHPWR 12+4-pin adapter cable for ATX 2.X-compliant be quiet! power supplies. This cable offers an alternative to bulky and short standard adapters that come with next-generation graphics cards like NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080 models. It features an elegant black sleeve and connects two be quiet! PCI-Express 12-pin sockets on compatible be quiet! power supplies for a maximum power throughput of up to 600 watts.

While the 12VHPWR adapter cable works with all current, modular be quiet! power supplies that have at least two be quiet! PCI-Express sockets, users are still advised to check power recommendations of the graphics card manufacturer. A general recommendation for the new Founders Edition cards from NVIDIA can be found below. To prepare for future GPU launches, be quiet! is also working on ATX 3.0 compatible power supplies. Dark Power 13 is scheduled for launch in early 2023, with Dark Power Pro 13 following a bit later. Other power supply series in the be quiet! portfolio will be reworked for ATX 3.0 compatibility in the near future as well.

The 12VHPWR cable is as of today available for purchase at a recommended retail price of €19.90 / $16.90 / £16.99.

GN's 4090 review mentions something about connection sense when using the 4-to-1 adopter, does this adpater have that?

Would love to see a 600W cable or adapter at 90o angle. The current power plug design on the 4090 is kinda dumb.

Corsair made a similar version. It should work with my PSU. I wonder if they provide them for free like Noctua does things when a new CPU socket appears? :)

Clearly it does since it has a 600W marking on it.
The 600w marking really has nothing to do with the sense part (the 4 pin connector on top) other than the fact that these new cables, psu's & 600w GPU's all have them... and will work better together with them since they allow the card & psu to communicate with each other on powah draw requirements at any given moment :)

Not true. The marking signifies that the cable has sensing pins grounded. It's in the standard.

There is no communication happening it's just a ground or open on those pins. What GN showed was just simply that leaving one of the adapter 8 pins not connected only grounds one of the sense pins and the card doesn't pull 600w.

Well I gues the GN video did show that these 2 cable to 1 isnt great if you want to enable full power limit at least on the Founders cards

considering there is a price mentioned and it can only interest current psu owners...it clearly won't be provided for free...

No, that's not how it works. The connectors on the power supply are not standard, every manufacturer is different. Most 8 pins on power supply side can support 300W, because they have daisy chained 8 pin cables (150W+150W) included already. So Corsair and be quiet! are only using 2 8 pins on the power supply side, but the cable is 100% capable of supplying 600W and it will work with full power limit.

I don't understand how PC community is so into electronics, but can't be bothered to do some reading on the literature provided...

EDIT: Now that I looked at the photos more clearly it's 12+12 pins on the power supply side, so that's absolutely not any standard.

yeah that's the usual psu-side PCIE connector for bequiet. did some reading for myself yesterday and takeaway was that what's kind of standard is the 150w limit per gpu-side CONNECTOR and the 288w limit per "line" (which ensures in a 2 connector line the connectors fall a little below 150). people keep equivocating and think the limit is 150w per line.

in fact one of the reasons the nVidia 4-to-1 adapter has so many connectors is to ensure that you end up using multiple lines

Some Reference specced (450w) AIB's are shipping with 3-to-1s,would be interesting to see whether they can still be set to >100% Power Target by switching to a 600w cable

If 4 cable can ground 2 sense pins, this means 2 of them have sense 0 gnd, and 2 of them have sense1 grounded.
triple 8 pins should still unlock 600 W, it doesn't quite make sense. And one can have molex to 6 pin to 8 pin adapters for all we know.
So you could end up having 300,450 and 600 W by only plugging 2 by 8 pins depending on which ones.

In Corsair's own cable all I see is dual 6 pin with sense pins grounded internally somehow. I see no sensing cables attached. How about that. GN will be left bamboozled by the sheer simplicity.

Igor's lab investigated the adapter already and found that Nvidia added a logic gate to make sure users don't melt cables.

Is it compatibel also with Corsair PSU and 3090 founders edition?

Nah, the connectors on the PSU side are all proprietary to the PSU manufacturer. They're keyed differently so you can't use Corsair PSU cables on a Seasonic PSU, etc.

They are all standardized (connectors and pin outs) on the PC component side (motherboard, GPU, SATA, Molex, etc.).

Corsair will have to come up with their own cables.

these first-party cables obviously have both sense wires grounded and are locked to 600W, I imagine they will eventually make 450W (open-gnd), 300W (gnd-open), 150W (open-open) cables and bundle them with lesser PSUs in the future once the connector makes its way to the whole gpu stack.

They are not selling that cable to me. Unless they make a version that match the original individually sleeved cables included with my Dark Power Pro 12. But I am not going to upgrade from my 3080ti to 40-series. So this is also a rather non-issue to me until some time in the future I guess.

The silverstone one doesn't say anything about grounding, just "Made with 16 AWG, capable of withstanding high power of up to 600W". Doubt it will "just work" with RTX 4090. I hope it just works, because I want one, and I'll cut it to 1/3 length for my sff case.

If it is a 600W cable it will be ground-ground for the sense pins. Which means it will work with any load up to 600W. You can use this cable with any future 150W GPU (any of the 150W-300W-450W options). The cable (PSU) is not forcing power into the GPU. The GPU is drawing power from the PSU, but can be limited if the sense pins indicate a less than 600W capability. Jayztwocents released a video yesterday, where they test disconnecting sense pins with a 4090.

Interesting, will have to see what the shill can prove. Too bad the two 30 minute videos from GN didn't cover this specific scenario.
