MSI Restores RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X Price, Refunds Price-difference to Those Who Paid $1935

Earlier today, we reported a story on MSI increasing the price of its GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X graphics card from its $1,750 MSRP to $1,935 in just a week following its market availability (more importantly, just a week after the card heaped praise for being a well-priced custom flagship product). This development first appeared on Reddit, where keen-eyed Redditor Jmulcahey spotted the price-hike first. The $1,935 price appeared on the company's US online store (a first-party retailer), where any changes in prices are taken to be changes in the MSRP.

MSI responded to the development, saying that the increased price on the MSI US online store was the result of a miscommunication, that the MSRP of the RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X remains at $1,750; and more importantly, that the company will refund the price-difference to anyone who purchased the card at the increased price of $1,935 (i.e. a $185 refund). The company released a statement to TechPowerUp, which we are posting verbatim below.

MSI is aware of an article from the forum regarding the raised price of RTX 4090 SUPRIM LIQUID X. As a matter of fact, it was our negligence to mismatch the price.
The price of RTX 4090 SUPRIM LIQUID X will remain at 1749.99 USD, which is exactly the same price as we launched the product.

MSI would like to apologize for this misunderstanding and if there happened to be any circumstances that anyone bought the card at The Official U.S Online Store of MSI with the wrong price, we will fully refund the extra charge of it.

We would also like to express our appreciation to our customers as well as the reviewers that have always been supportive of us.

$1750 is moar than the total parts cost of my last TWO client rigs together.... granted they didn't have 4xx cards in them and I get some small quantity purchase discounts, but just sayin...

and for anutha $200 I could have offered them bigger PSU's or moar ram or some other upgrade

Looks like it was a good idea to just jump the gun and buying a rtx 4090 while they are at msrp. If they are all ready beginning to increase in price, that is bad news.

Also confirms me that waiting for RTX 4080 16 gb might been a bad idea do to price increases.

Glad I just dit it now and not waited as I dit with ampere lauch and waited for rtx 3080 ti. We all know how prices and availability ended up being like. A freaking nightmare.

Edit: looks like I misread it. So they Lower the price again. Well let's see if that holds up in the long run.

@crazyeyesreaper if I were to get an AIO gpu and AIO cpu cooler for the cpu too, let's say I use this system casually for 8 years, cleaning dust once a year or so, what would happen if one of them leaked one day? Would it fry my motherboard, or is all coolant in all modern AIO's non-conductive these days?

Just wondering how much actual risk there is in going with AIO setups vs air setups these days... personally I still want to go with air... but if there is literally 0 risk with AIO's, I may consider AIO...

Amazon is no different than any other website like newegg/ ebay/... 3rd party scalpers are every where.
Soon as it says sold and shipped by amazon/... then it's them scalping but in msi site case they increased the price so 1st party scalping.

Yes, I know that this card is out of stock on Amazon but when retailers are asking $2,200 up to $2,600 for their 4090 stock then I think it's unlikely that we will be seeing this card for $1,935. MSRP has been meaningless since the height of the Pandemic and the mining craze. Anything less than $2,200 will just be perpetually out of stock.

I know this is merely anecdotal information... But I have two AMD Fury X's still fully operational and has never leaked... One is in my son's rig who does 1080p gaming for hours on in and the other is wife's computer for office work (complete overkill, but whatever).
