AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Price Cut Further, Now Starts at $669

Some sanity restored to the market. If you OC and push the 6900xt to it's limits.

The market won't stand for the top cards costing more than $600-650 in my view. Similar to when GTX 980 and 1080 launched. That's where we go back to, eventually...

All this and I'd be willing to bet Nvidia has already sold more 4090's than AMD has sold 6950XT's. Value only gets you so far without the mindshare, the feature set (or at the very least, the notion the feature set is better/more useable), and the top dog bragging rights. The second the 4090 launched any single previous card from anyone lost any hope of claiming to be the fastest, outside of a handful of niche circumstances, and even that's a stretch.

I know I know, there are people who won't ever buy Nvidia because they are claiming some sort of ill-perceived and conceived moral high ground, well I wonder if AMD tells that to their investors when profits are down.

I will say I did snag another 6900xt for cheap when they dipped under $700. I needed another for 4K stuff. I'm not a die hard AMD guy. I have owned about half and half green or red, and right now I have two maxwell quadros in some crunching machines. But I am a bang for the buck guy, and the 6900xt is the most logical choice for what I needed, which is those damn ROPs that my VEGA 64 was lacking. The 6800 and 6800xt are just priced too close to the 6900xt to even be worth saving the $75 or so.

For me the biggest reason I opted for the 6800XT over the 6900XT was power consumption. I just bought a nice Seasonic Focus GX-750 roughly a year ago and wanted to do a drop-in upgrade (and avoid needing to redo cable management for the new PSU). I was able to grab a NIB 6800XT for $550 and just plunk it into my rig and get going. So far it's able to annihilate almost everything at 1440p. That being said if you already have a PSU able to feed a 6900XT it's definitely the better option.

I don't think the 6900 XT is the better choice. Today's pricings are a consequence of unfair price reduction to a product which was supposed to be a premium tier.

The 6800 XT was supposed to be an affordable product which it is now not.

When you promise something, deliver your promise. The 6800 XT is a broken promise.

The entire point of 6800, 6800 XT, and 6900xt is to have one chip design from AMD to mass produce, but sell at different price points.

This is because:

1. Yield Issues (especially early in a chip's life) cause a high number of failures. Fixing those failures requires disabling portions of the chip, so you are forced with a lot of 6800-class or 6800 xt class chips.

2. Yield issues later in life, have fewer failures. Meaning more chips can be sold as a 6900xt.

So early on, AMD has too many 6800 chips. Later as the chip process gets better, more 6900+ chips exist, since the manufacturer has fewer defects.

I remember those promised MSRPs at launch and I wanted a 6800xt but could never find one close to that price.
